Art Exhibitions in Paris
Closing Soon: Ending January 27th

Any amount of time in Paris is a gift and Suzanne spent 5 days soaking up art and making some new discoveries.

Over the course of the next week or so,we will share some of the special moments with our friends as we spanned centuries and disciplines. If you can’t make it to Paris- treat yourself to the catalogues!

NOT TO BE MISSED!!!
Claude Monet and Joan Mitchell: “Monet - Mitchell”
Fondation Louis Vuitton - Paris, France
https://www.fondationlouisvuitton.fr/en/events/claude-monet-joan-mitchell

“The exhibitions "Monet - Mitchell" create an unprecedented "dialogue" between the works of two exceptional artists, Claude Monet (1840-1926) and Joan Mitchell (1925-1992).
The "Monet - Mitchell" exhibitions present each artist’s unique response to a landscape and nature, illustrated in a particularly immersive manner. In his last paintings, the Water Lilies, Monet aimed to recreate in his studio the motifs he observed at length on the surface of his water lily pond in Giverny. Joan Mitchell, on the other hand, would explore a memory or a sense of the emotions she felt while in a particular place that was dear to her, perceptions that remained vivid beyond space and time. She would create these abstract compositions at La Tour, her studio in Vétheuil, a small French village.”

Also the major Joan Mitchell Retrospective is on to provide a full day of glorious art!

Major Exhibitions in Philadelphia - Modigliani and Matisse Closing January 29th

We had the pleasure of doing an art-filled day trip to the Barnes Foundation to see the Modigliani Up Close and then Matisse in the 1930’s at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Each show was breathtaking and presented an overview and moment of each artist's work that we had not seen before.

Seeing Modigliani sculptures “read” against the painting, the technical analysis of paintings to reveal layers of earlier paintings and seeing his brush strokes, was such a gift. For Matisse - seeing his use of photography to document the process of a painting - seeing intense charcoal drawings that lead to series of pen and ink drawings and then seeing him working on the mural commissioned by Dr. Barnes……magical!

We urge you to catch these exhibitions before they close.

Happy New Year!! Want to share with you an Exhibition Not to be Missed!!

Jeffrey Gibson: THIS BURNING WORLD
ICA San Francisco
October 1, 2022–March 26, 2023
https://www.icasf.org/exhibitions/2-this-burning-world

Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco (ICASF) is a recently re-established non-collecting art museum that is an addition to the growing art scene in the City's Dogpatch district, an area that includes Minnesota Street Project and McAvoy Foundation.

The artist’s states “THIS BURNING WORLD speaks to the urgency and importance of our collective relationship to the planet. It places the earth under the ICA SF building in dialogue with video of the natural world beyond these walls…..The openings in the floor are an opportunity for the earth to breathe and serve as a portal for us to speak, give thanks, and apologize to the land for our treatment of “them.” The hundreds of videos, shot mostly in the Hudson Valley, capture the seasonal and evolving natural environments where I live and work.”

The immersive installation captured the layers of beauty of our land and enriched by the voice of Joan Henry as she speaks and sings to the earth.

A MacArthur Genius recipient, the foundation has stated that Jeffrey Gibson is a multi-disciplined artist melding indigenous North American materials and forms with those of Western contemporary art to create a new hybrid visual vocabulary and prompting a shift in how Native American art is perceived and historicized.” He is a citizen of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and is half Cherokee.
