“My oil and watercolor paintings trace my conscious and unconscious perceptions concerning myself and those close to me. I have been painting most of my life; it is a freeing and therapeutic process, which restores and heals me. It is my wish that my work presents to the viewer a pathway to remember and to feel the quality of life and that the viewer has the opportunity to reflect more deeply on his/her own beginning with all its implications and realities. Evident in my work is the presence of recurring symbols with references to generations past and present.”

Susan Harris-Demmet discovered her artistic voice at a summer sleep-away camp, where she painted her first piece in oil of an owl that would foreshadow her lifelong fascination with nature and symbolism. This formative experience ignited a passionate creative journey that continues to evolve today. After earning her BFA from New York University, she cultivated her distinctive visual language while working in various art-related fields.

All of Ellen Mandelbaum’s work is about light. ” I paint with light. My stained glass glows with transmitted light and color. I make gilding with the sweep of my hand, so it reflects light. In my watercolors, I respond tthe light that gives form to a transcendent landscape. I hope my work offers the possibility of focus and serenity in a stressful world.”

Ellen Mandelbaum is internationally recognized for her innovative architectural stained glass. Her commissions include a 30-foot high window for The South Carolina Aquarium, and others in Hawaii, Minneapolis, Maryland, and New York. She received The Lifetime Achievement Award from the Stained Glass Association of America and The Religious Art Award from The American Institute of Architects. As a member of the Women’s International Glass Workshop, Ellen has exhibited all over theworld.
