๐Ÿšจ RARE SOUTH BRONX HISTORY ๐Ÿšจ
This restored 1970โ€™s photo features โ€œPonceโ€ of the legendary Savage Skulls 5th Division in The Bronx, NY ๐Ÿ—ฝ๐Ÿ”ฅ
Back then the South Bronx was one of the most dangerous places in America. Puerto Rican youth gangs wore fly cut sleeve denim vests, gang patches, beads, & Puerto Rican flag colors with pride. This photo captures the REAL look & energy of 1970โ€™s NYC street culture.
But the story of Fernando โ€œPonceโ€ Laspina didnโ€™t end in tragedy.
He survived that violent era & transformed his life. Today he runs El Maestro, Inc. in The Bronx, NY โ€” a self funded cultural center & boxing gym helping the youth & community ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐ŸฅŠ

He is also a published author with books available on Amazon.
This is proof that people can change, rebuild, & give back to their communities. Salute to a real Bronx survivor & community leader ๐Ÿซก
๐Ÿ“š Links to El Maestro, Inc. & his books will be in the comments.

Black Spades โ€ข Savage Skulls โ€ข Savage Nomads โ€ข Ghetto Brothers โ€ข Seven Immortals

Before social mediaโ€ฆ before YouTubeโ€ฆ before the internetโ€ฆ these legendary Bronx street organizations were already making history throughout New York City. ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ”ฅ
These digitally recreated 1970โ€™s style vests represent 5 of the most influential Bronx street gang families of all time:
โ™ ๏ธ Black Spades
โ˜ ๏ธ Savage Skulls
๐Ÿ”ฅ Savage Nomads
โœŠ๐Ÿฝ Ghetto Brothers
โšก Seven Immortals

Most of these organizations were founded in The Bronx during the late 1960โ€™s, except for the Seven Immortals who were founded in 1971. During the 1970โ€™s they quickly expanded throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and even nearby states.
NYC was a melting pot, and these organizations included members from many different ethnic backgrounds united by neighborhood pride, loyalty, survival, and identity during one of the wildest eras in New York history.
Many people online talk about NYC historyโ€ฆ but VERY FEW actually lived around it, researched it for decades, or documented it BEFORE social media even existed.
This page represents 26 YEARS of research, history, and dedication to preserving authentic NYC street history.

๐Ÿšจ LOST QUEENS HISTORY: The โ€œBROTHER HOODSโ€ (1970s NYC Street Mystery) ๐Ÿ‘€

This rare recreated vest represents a nearly forgotten chapter of 1970s Queens, NYC street gang history โ€” the Brother Hoods of Elmhurst & Corona (1972โ€“1975).
Very little verified history exists about them, which is why this piece is important.
Questions still remain:
โ€ข Were they connected to the Bronx โ€œBrotherhoodโ€ super coalition?
โ€ข Did they overlap with groups like the Javelins, Peacemakers, or Young Sinners?
โ€ข Why did they vanish from documented NYC street history so quickly?

This recreation was made with insight from an original member โ€” salute to OG Tico for helping preserve this lost culture.
Queens had many street crews in the 70s โ€” some documented, many forgotten. This post is about bringing those memories back to life.

๐Ÿ“ข If YOU or your family remember the Brother Hoods, Elmhurst, or Corona street scene โ€” drop a comment. Your story matters.

THE ASSASSINATORS ๐Ÿ”ต Sunset Park Brooklynโ€™s Late 70โ€™s Street Soldiers ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ”ฅ

RARE restored late 1970โ€™s photo of two members of โ€œThe Assassinatorsโ€ standing outside Dewey J.H.S. 136 in Sunset Park Brooklyn, N.Y. during one of the wildest eras in NYC street history. ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ”ฅ
Sunset Park was one of the few Brooklyn neighborhoods where the street gang scene stayed active from the late 70โ€™s deep into the 80โ€™s, 90โ€™s, and even today in 2026. While other areas slowed down, Sunset Park kept its own identity and culture alive.

The Grito de Lares Puerto Rican flag โœŠ๐Ÿฝ and Pan-African flag โœŠ๐Ÿฟon the backs of these vests showed the unity and pride within โ€œThe Assassinators,โ€ a mixed club representing Brooklyn to the fullest.
This isnโ€™t Hollywood. This is REAL NYC history.
Real streets. Real people. Real legends.

๐Ÿซก Salute to all Assassinators active, inactive, retired, or no longer here.
๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ RIP JR TA, Angel La P**a TA, Andy TA, Lil ED TA, Flaco TA, Pito TA & all the fallen soldiers.

๐ŸŸฃ Renigades Of Harlem: The 1970โ€™s NYC Street Gang That Helped Rebuild Spanish Harlem ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ๐Ÿ™๏ธ

RARE restored 1970โ€™s Manhattan, New York photo featuring members of the legendary โ€œRenigades Of Harlemโ€ from Spanish Harlem aka El Barrio. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ—ฝ
During one of NYCโ€™s roughest eras, the โ€œRenigades Of Harlemโ€ became known not only for their street presence, but also for helping rehabilitate abandoned buildings in their community and making them livable again for local families. One of the few NYC street organizations remembered for trading weapons for tools. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

Look closely at the afros, denim vests, 1970โ€™s fashion, and raw Harlem energy captured in this incredible moment frozen in time. This is REAL New York City history that many people today will never understand.
1970โ€™s NYC was different.
The streets were different.
The culture was different.

Salute to the members of the โ€œRenigades Of Harlemโ€ still here today & RIP to the fallen. ๐Ÿ’ฏ

๐Ÿ”ฅ Young Nomads & Savage Nomads of The South Bronx, NYC ๐Ÿ”ฅ Rare Early 1970โ€™s Street Gang Photo

This powerful early 1970โ€™s photo features members of the legendary โ€œYoung Nomadsโ€ & the infamous โ€œSavage Nomadsโ€ walking through the South Bronx during one of NYCโ€™s wildest eras.
The โ€œYoung Nomadsโ€ were the younger division of the โ€œSavage Nomads,โ€ a Bronx, NY street gang founded in the late 1960โ€™s by โ€œBlack Benji Buxtonโ€ (not to be confused with Black Benjie from The Ghetto Brothers RIP). Their first Supreme President was Black Benji Buxton, followed by โ€œCrazy Joeโ€ RIP, who was Italian & Puerto Rican and helped expand the Savage Nomads into nearby Connecticut during the 1970โ€™s.

This was the era of the burning Bronxโ€ฆ abandoned buildings, blackout nights, graffiti-covered streets, and powerful street organizations that became part of NYC history forever.
