Kutlesa is thrilled to announce 'Afterimage,' the inaugural solo exhibition by Zoe McGuire . Opening on September 4, 2025, at our new gallery space located at 537b West 23rd Street, New York.

'Afterimage' is a captivating exploration of the intricate relationship between human perception, the natural world, and the cosmos. Through a series of visually arresting and intellectually provocative works, Zoe McGuire invites viewers to contemplate the limits of human perception and the profound connections that bind us to the universe.

McGuire's artistry emerges from a rich tapestry of research, blending scientific discovery with natural wonder. Drawing from NASA's cosmic archives and her own meticulous field sketches from the New York Botanical Garden and the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center, McGuire creates works that transcend traditional artistic boundaries. Her works, like 'Red Door' and 'Overlook,' are vivid collages of memory and imagination, inspired by her frequent visits to nature centers. By merging these recollections with ethereal dreamscapes, McGuire crafts a unique visual language that challenges viewers to question the nature of perception and the fluid boundary between reality and remembrance.

In the realm of intellectual discourse, the works of philosophers stand as invaluable repositories of wisdom, offering unique insights that profoundly shape our comprehension of the world. In a recent portrait, Hélio Luís pays tribute to the enduring influence of Ludwig Wittgenstein by incorporating one of the seven known machine photographs of the philosopher into his composition.

Wittgenstein, a renowned Austrian-British philosopher, is known for his influential contributions to logic, the philosophy of mind, and the philosophy of mathematics. His later work, particularly 'Philosophical Investigations,' emphasizes the importance of understanding language and meaning within specific contexts of use.

Final day to explore new and recent works by Alexandre Wagner at📍Taipei Dangdai – Booth DG02.

In 'Canela-Ferrugem,' the impression of a dense forest is constructed through undulating lateral gestures—fragmented into hundreds of brushstrokes that suggest a fictive architecture, removed from any literal depiction of landscape.

This sense of excavation, inherent in Wagner’s practice, also implies an ever-present potential for dissolution. In works such as 'Gengibre-Azul,' a circular form at the center of the composition acts as a magnetic nucleus, drawing the viewer’s gaze inward, while surrounding elements seem to ripple and dissolve.

In 'Laguna,' rhythmic motion supersedes any direct reference to nature, reflection, or vegetation; it is as though the artist were attempting to render the sensation of wind moving through the scene.

Taipei Dangdai is now open to the public – visit us at📍Booth DG02 and discover the solo presentation by Alexandre Wagner , on view through May 11.

The works selected for this presentation invite the viewer to dwell on the surface of the canvas and to observe the methodical, almost obsessive construction of each composition: composed of small and energetic gestures. Through successive layers of highly diluted paint, Wagner’s brushwork appears to subtract rather than apply pigment. Each mark scrapes, excavates, and reveals light from the raw white of the canvas beneath.

🐰 Happy Easter from all of us at Kutlesa.

'Feldhase' is a 1502 watercolour and bodycolour painting by German artist Albrecht Dürer. Painted in 1502 in his workshop, it is acknowledged as a masterpiece of observational art alongside his Great Piece of Turf from the following year. The subject is rendered with almost photographic accuracy, and although the piece is normally given the title Young Hare, the portrait is sufficiently detailed for the hare to be identified as a mature specimen — the German title translates as 'Field Hare' and the work is often referred to in English as the Hare or Wild Hare.

Ereira-Guyer’s .ereira_guyer practice is deeply rooted in the exploration of knowledge that is not readily accessible through personal experience or immediate perception. He delves into the realm of understanding that exists beyond the human gaze, where objects of knowledge are not physically present but still exert a profound influence, activating a sense of remembrance and agency. This unique approach allows him to create works that engage the viewer in a thoughtful consideration of the intangible and the unseen.
