Superchief Gallery has been a home for underground art and emerging voices in Los Angeles since 2014. Like so many cultural spaces, we’ve been hit hard by rising costs and a shrinking market, but over the past few months our community support has already brought us halfway toward a sustainable future.

Running a grassroots gallery on this scale is incredibly ambitious, and we wouldn’t keep fighting for it if we didn’t believe it was vital for the artists and communities we serve. This month we’re making a major push to raise the remaining funds through our fundraiser, Patreon and a series of events so we can keep our doors open and continue providing a platform for emerging voices.

We’re profoundly grateful to everyone who has donated, to our Patreon supporters, to the artists who share their work with us, and to everyone who has shown up, spread the word or believed in this space. And a special thank you to the Los Angeles Times for telling our story and helping amplify our call for support.

Every share, donation and visit matters. Together we can save Superchief and keep this vibrant space alive.

Please visit GoFundMe.com/SaveSuperchiefGallery to donate or share and help us reach our goal.

Superchief is in immediate danger of closing.

Like many galleries and downtown LA businesses, we’ve been hit hard by a declining art market, rising costs, and the ongoing expense of keeping our very small team employed. Without immediate support, we will not be able to stay open beyond October.

Over the past few months we’ve worked hard to create a financially sustainable model while staying true to our ethos and community. We’ve produced large-scale art exhibitions, hosted classes and workshops with local artists, organized mutual aid and fundraiser events, panel discussions, film screenings, book fairs, fashion shows, and art markets. We are constantly using our space to bring people together. We’ve made real progress with these collaborations and are eager to continue working with artists and organizers.

We launched a Patreon to offer our biggest supporters free gifts, event access, and exclusive video content. That support has helped us cut our expenses nearly in half, and we are deeply grateful and humbled by everyone who has stepped up.

As we fundraise to survive in the short term, we’re devoting extra attention to developing content for our Patreon subscribers and hosting additional fundraising events at the gallery. Superchief means so much to so many people, and we’re doing everything we can to save it.

Thank you to everyone who has organized shows, volunteered, worked events, supported our projects, or simply contributed your energy to this vibrant and inspiring run in Los Angeles. It has been an honor to build this together with you. Whether we survive long-term or this chapter is coming to a close, we’ve made history together. And that’s something to be very proud of.

Please consider making a donation to our GoFundme campaign to Save Superchief.

Urgent: Superchief Gallery is at a critical crossroads, and without immediate support, we will lose our space forever.

We are asking you, our community, to join us in securing the future of Superchief by becoming one of 3,000 Superchief Supporters, contributing just $10 a month. For over a decade, we've been a home for some of Los Angeles' most authentic underground art, culture, and community. Now, we need you to help us keep that mission alive.

After May 1, 2025 we will not have enough money to stay open without collective support.

As a Superchief Supporter, you’ll enjoy:
-Exclusive access to ticketed events at Superchief Gallery, free of charge.
-Free art and merch (and other great perks!)
-The knowledge that you're helping an artist-run, community-driven space continue to thrive.
-The chance to directly support the careers of emerging artists.
-The opportunity to give back to a community that inspires creativity, education, and mutual aid.

We’re asking for your help because we believe in this community—and we believe in what we’ve built together.

So grateful for this month with  LIFE UNDERGROUND at . This fully immersive exhibition is up until this Sunday, September 1st 2024. Don't miss it if you're in LA!

Over 1000 people came out to celebrate at the opening party, and hundreds more through the course of the exhibition. Many of these special artworks sold, and also hundreds of books and shirts. Our full episode on Youtube was very well received. We hosted a very special NATURALIST ACADEMIC SYMPOSIUM, bringing together anthropologists, nature experts, wildlife experts, artists, famous figures in LA River graffiti and more.

The exhibition received high praise by art appreciators from all walks of life as well as authoritative curatorial outlets  and

This truly underground art show couldn't have been a more perfect fit for Superchief, we'll miss it when it's gone!

Big thanks to all of Operation Under, the Los Angeles Underground, everyone who supported this ambitious show, and especially all the artists:

Operation Under presents ‘Life Underground’ opening August 3rd at Superchief Gallery LA.

The exhibition will run until August 25th, 2024.

Operation Under is a clandestine organization that produces artwork in tunnels beneath the city of Los Angeles and beyond. The group consists of a diverse cast of characters ranging from graffiti artists, painters, writers, explorers, photographers, tattooers, nature enthusiasts and anthropologists.

For over seven years Operation Under has been exploring and creating these hidden clusters of underground artwork. Each obscure location is identified by a sequential number, totaling over 117 locations as of 2024. Some of these paintings could last hundreds of years, existing in complete darkness, exposed to absolutely no sunlight, locked away in concrete tombs. Others may be lost to wear and tear from flowing water, erosion from the washed away deitrius of Los Angeles as it flows through drainage canals. Much of the artwork exists in total secrecy in some suprising locations under the city; beneath famous landmarks, government buildings, parks, and freeways.
Los Angeles is the home of Operation Under but the group’s reach continues to grow. Missions have been taking place abroad and the Operation has connected with likeminded groups around the world.
Curiosity of the unknown is what draws us in. Some get drawn in further than others. The members of Operation Under have been sucked down the drain about as far as you can go.
