SPEAK!📞
It’s been over a decade since the last public pay phone was removed from the streets of NYC. Payphones were a fixture of NYC life in the 1980s and 90s, even appearing onstage in musicals like RENT, where Jonathan Larson included the real-life detail of the payphone across the street from his apartment, where friends could call for him to throw down a key. In our RENT exhibit, you’ll find this relic of historic NYC - don’t forget to pick up the phone to hear stories from original casting director Bernie Telsey.

On November 3rd, 1985, the star-studded concert “The Best of the Best: A Show of Concern,” took place at the Met. Alongside the cast of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, Dr. Ruth Westheimer spoke in support of AIDS research and care, wearing this custom LA CAGE costume, now on display at The Museum of Broadway! Inside the dress, a patch was signed by members of the Broadway cast.
Now at NEW YORK CITY CENTER, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES honors the original trailblazing production in a new revival starring Billy Porter and Wayne Brady, through June 28 only.🌈💗
