The opening of ๐๐ข๐ด๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ณ ๐๐ฐ๐ฉ๐ฏ๐ด: ๐๐ณ๐ฐ๐ด๐ด๐ฉ๐ข๐ต๐ค๐ฉ has us looking back on some of our favorite past Jasper Johns exhibitions at Craig F. Starr Gallery. We canโt believe itโs been 11 years since we presented ๐๐ข๐ด๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ณ ๐๐ฐ๐ฉ๐ฏ๐ด ๐๐ณ๐ช๐ฏ๐ต from October-November 2008. This exhibition featured familiar motifs from Johnsโ oeuvre: flags, numbers, maps, and Crosshatch, executed in a variety of printmaking techniques, including lithographs, intaglio, etchings, and aquatints. โฃ

Johns created two separate, yet very similar, black and white Crosshatch works, both titled โCo**se and Mirror,โ during the period of 1974-1976. The mixed media drawing (gouache, graphite wash, and graphite pencil on paper) pictured in the first slide is currently on view in It predates the lithographic version in the second slide, which is part of an edition of 58 created in 1976, and was featured in ๐๐ข๐ด๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ณ ๐๐ฐ๐ฉ๐ฏ๐ด ๐๐ณ๐ช๐ฏ๐ต๐ด in 2008. โฃ

We are so excited to have 11 groundbreaking Crosshatch works--including โCo**se and Mirrorโ-- currently on view at the gallery, and are especially thankful to Jasper for lending this work from his personal collection. We are open today from 11am-5:30pm, and ๐๐ข๐ด๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ณ ๐๐ฐ๐ฉ๐ฏ๐ด: ๐๐ณ๐ฐ๐ด๐ด๐ฉ๐ข๐ต๐ค๐ฉ is on view through January 18, 2020. โฃ
