Dear Art Frankly Community,

It is with sadness that I announce Art Frankly will be closing. Over the past decade, your support and enthusiasm have helped us create a meaningful platform for art professionals. Together, we’ve worked toward a more inclusive and transparent hiring landscape in the arts.

Despite our best efforts, challenges in the market and the slower adoption of new technologies made it difficult to achieve the financial sustainability we envisioned. Moving forward, I will be focusing on private placements and effective recruitment within the arts. If you’d like to stay connected or explore future opportunities, please don’t hesitate to reach out at [email protected] or visit www.karlinemoeller.com for further info.

Thank you for being part of this incredible journey.

Warmly,

Karline Moeller

A note from our Founder & CEO Karline Moeller:

I have important news and exciting updates to share.

First and foremost, an exciting new piece of New York City legislature will go into effect on May 15, 2022. ATTENTION job posters, the NYC Pay Transparency Law states that employers in New York City will be guilty of “unlawful discriminatory practice” if they do not disclose a minimum and maximum salary or hourly wage on a job listing. This new ruling applies to all positions—both remote and in-person, both permanent and short-term contracts—and all companies with four or more employed persons must comply or risk fines of up to $125,000 by the New York City Commission on Human Rights. New York City job posters- you must list salary expectations on your job descriptions!

We at Art Frankly believe this law is long overdue and will be a significant step towards creating a more equitable and inclusive hiring process. These salary transparency requirements are essential to improving and transforming the existing wage structure in our industry.

It is important to note that similar salary transparency laws already exist in several US states (California, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, Nevada, and Washington) and Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and South Carolina plan to follow suit. The New York City Council’s full description of the new law can be found here and the fact sheet is available here.

If you have any questions about how these new laws will affect your job posting or job search, feel free to email me directly at [email protected].

Art Frankly is also excited to announce our website rebuild! Carl Murray and Andrea Venezia, founders of Alto Palo and longtime Art Frankly supporters, are in the process of a major site renovation launching at the end of summer. We eagerly await the increased functionality and ease of use that the new site will afford the AF community, so be sure to stay tuned for these upcoming improvements!

Lastly, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support of Art Frankly. It’s our persevering mission to improve the way the art world connects and hires.

Yours,

"Portal" treads at the threshold of recognition. The labyrinth of works operates like points along with a
path, in which each individual object sparks immaterial processing in the space between the next.

2️⃣ + , "you may make your pile, here" on view at through April 30, 2022.

"you make your pile, here" is a physical manifestation of the artists' ongoing conversations around how time spent mulling over the s**t of lived experience allows form to absorb and carry a multitude of meanings.

3️⃣ , “Closed Up Like A Fist,” on view at through April 30, 2022.

Orupabo's multidisciplinary practice excavates colonial archives and digital sources to amass her materials of dispossessed imagery, questioning the mutability of identities, delicately bound by fragmented components.

Spanning four decades, this exhibition is the largest and most comprehensive presentation of Kruger’s work in 20 years; it includes large-scale vinyl room wraps, videos, audio soundscapes, and more.
