We are deeply saddened by the passing of Julio Le Parc, a visionary artist whose groundbreaking practice left an indelible mark on modern art around the world.

We were honored to share Le Parc’s art with our audiences in 'The Illusive Eye' (2016), an international survey of Kinetic and Op art. The exhibition highlighted the richness of geometric abstraction across the Americas, and Le Parc’s contributions stood as a powerful example of the creativity, innovation, and experimentation that defined the movement.

We are grateful for the Argentine artist’s enduring contributions to generations of artists, scholars, and viewers. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all those touched by his remarkable life and legacy.

We are proud to announce Guadalupe Rosales as the recipient of the 2026–2027 Dobel Latinx Art Prize, sponsored by Maestro Dobel Tequila.

A multidisciplinary artist and educator, Rosales is renowned for her community-driven archival projects, “Veteranas and Rucas” and “Map Pointz,” which preserve and celebrate the histories, identities, and subcultures of Latinx communities in Southern California.

Through photography, sculpture, video, sound, and collaborative storytelling, Rosales explores memory, belonging, and cultural preservation, transforming personal narratives into powerful collective histories.

We look forward to presenting her solo exhibition at El Museo del Barrio in 2027!

We were honored to co-host, alongside LxNY Network, a Latine Arts Organization Community Conversation this week at El Museo del Barrio with Deputy Mayor Julie A. Su and New York City Department of Cultural Affairs Commissioner Diya Vij!

Thank you to the many incredible Latine arts organizations, cultural workers, and community leaders who came together for a focused and generative dialogue around the realities, challenges, and future possibilities facing Latine cultural organizations across New York City.

Since our founding in 1969, El Museo has believed deeply in the power of culture as a vehicle for visibility, advocacy, and collective transformation. Conversations like these reaffirm the importance of building together, sharing resources, and advancing a more equitable and sustainable cultural ecosystem for all New Yorkers.

We’re delighted to share that 'Sophie Rivera: Double Exposures' has been featured in the Financial Times!

In her review, Ariella Budick highlights Rivera’s ability to move fluidly "between documentary clarity and insightful portraiture," celebrating the depth and range of her work. The piece traces Rivera’s richly varied career—from her early years as a dancer to her street photography—while recognizing the long-overdue museum survey of an artist whose intimate, honest vision of New York has too often gone unrecognized.

We’re delighted to share that ‘Sophie Rivera: Double Exposures’ has been named a critic's pick by the The New York Times!

In his review, co-chief art critic Holland Cutter praises the exhibition as a long-overdue spotlight on Rivera’s body of work. The retrospective traces Rivera’s "distinctly political—leftist, feminist" documentary street photography to experimental and abstract pieces exploring Puerto Rican identity, feminism, activism, and everyday New York life.
