Please join us in wishing Peter Zimmermann a very happy birthday! Born on this day in 1956 in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, Zimmermann is a painter and multi-media artist known for his epoxy resin works, which are derived from digital templates then distorted through graphical algorithms and transferred onto canvas in numerous layers. The artist’s work has been featured in both solo and group exhibitions in museums on an international scale. Today, he lives and works in Cologne.

Zimmermann’s show "Painting Rules" is currently on view at Nunu Fine Art Taipei. A collaboration with the Metropolitan Museum of Manila (The M), the exhibition centers on Zimmermann’s newly developed sticker-based installation works, presented alongside a new body of epoxy paintings. Together, these works reflect a significant shift and experimental turn in his recent practice. Through this dual presentation, the exhibition invites viewers to reconsider painting within a contemporary context shaped by the rapid evolution of digital imagery and artificial intelligence.

Departing from Zimmermann’s previous exhibitions, which focused primarily on canvas-based painting, Painting Rules introduces installation works that employ stickers as a core material. Treated as modular visual units, the stickers can be repeated, dismantled, and reconfigured to generate imagery directly within the exhibition space. This approach extends the artist’s long-standing exploration of image translation while simultaneously liberating painting from the confines of the canvas, transforming it into a spatial and collaborative mode of engagement.

Today, May 30, 2026, is the last chance to see the exhibition currently on view at Nunu Fine Art New York, “Bellmer Nauman Pondick: Material Desire.” Bringing together the work of Hans Bellmer, Bruce Nauman, and Rona Pondick, the exhibition creates an absurd and at times comic picture of three differing artists' engagement with the body. Bellmer’s original hand-colored gelatin silver prints question conceptions of femininity in Germany’s interwar period, Nauman’s video and photographic works subvert notions of artistic subjecthood, and Pondick’s surreal combinations of bodily fragments and found objects stir visceral feelings within the viewer.

The show will be on view today during the gallery’s usual open hours, 11 am - 6 pm. You can read more about the artists as well as reviews from the New York Times, Studio International, The Brooklyn Rail, Beyond Noise, ArtDaily, Our Culture Magazine, Gazzetta di Mantova, and The Creative Process on our website.

Following this exhibition, we will be closed until Friday, June 5, 2026, when our next show “Nancy Bowen: From A to Z and the Bodies in Between” opens. Please join us for the opening reception from 6 – 8 pm.

Peter Zimmermann’s works are characterized by fluid color fields and luminous surfaces. As light interacts with the layers of epoxy resin, the imagery subtly shifts depending on the viewer’s perspective, creating a visual state that oscillates between stillness and movement. The viewer’s gaze is drawn into the overlapping layers of color, blurring the boundaries between painting and digital imagery while transforming the act of viewing itself into an integral part of the artistic experience.

Nunu Fine Art is pleased to congratulate Taiwanese artist En-Man Chang on the acquisition of her work, “Snail Paradise,” by the Dallas Museum of Art. Chang’s work examines the entangled relationships between historical narratives, species migration, and cultural identity. Working across embroidery, video, and installation, she draws on detailed research to transform seemingly modest subjects into powerful lenses through which to reconsider colonial histories, global circulation, and Indigenous knowledge systems.

“Snail Paradise” traces the path of the Giant African Land Snail, a highly invasive species which spread from its origins in East Africa across global trade routes. In the 1930s, the snail was brought to Taiwan by the Japanese for food cultivation during their period of colonial rule. In her piece, Chang explores how the snail’s migration routes mirror the cartographies of imperial expansion, incorporating indigenous Taiwanese methods of cross-stitch embroidery to depict plants associated with snail cuisine.

This acquisition highlights the growing international recognition of Chang’s research-driven practice and her distinctive engagement with history, ecology, and cultural memory.

Nunu Fine Art is honored to announce that Ray IV by American artist Mia Westerlund Roosen has officially entered the permanent collection of the Wright Museum of Art at Beloit College, where it will be installed in front of the museum’s main entrance as a new public art landmark.

Born in New York in 1942, Westerlund Roosen has remained an active figure in American contemporary sculpture since the 1970s. Working across sculpture, painting, and public art, she explores the relationship between materiality, scale, and bodily perception. While her work developed within the contexts of Minimalism and Post-Minimalism, it does not fully adhere to their austere and depersonalized formal language. Instead, through the weight, texture, and structure of materials such as concrete and metal, her work reintroduces corporeality, tactility, and material experience. The acquisition of Ray IV not only marks an important milestone in the artist’s career but also adds a significant chapter to the museum’s collection of contemporary sculpture.

This is the last week to see “Bellmer Nauman Pondick: Material Desire,” an exhibition created in collaboration with Sonnabend and Ubu Galleries currently on view at Nunu Fine Art New York. Closing this Saturday, May 30, 2026, the show brings together the work of three accomplished artists: Hans Bellmer, Bruce Nauman, and Rona Pondick. Though working from differing perspectives, in a wide range of media, and during distinct time periods, together Bellmer, Nauman, and Pondick generate new conversations surrounding engagement with materiality and the human body, subverting preconceived notions and throwing into question the viewer’s reality. We are honored that the exhibition has been reviewed in the New York Times, Studio International, The Brooklyn Rail, Beyond Noise, ArtDaily, Our Culture Magazine, Gazzetta di Mantova, and The Creative Process. Visit our website for additional material on the exhibition.

Please join us in wishing Nancy Bowen a very happy birthday! Born on this day in 1955 in Providence, Rhode Island, Bowen is a mixed-media artist known for her eclectic mixtures of imagery and materials in both two and three dimensions. Her sculpture and drawing exist in an in-between zone of form and idea, abstraction and representation, offering poetic commentary on our rapidly changing material culture.
Next Friday, June 5, 2026, solo exhibition Nancy Bowen: From A to Z and the Bodies in Between will open at Nunu Fine Art New York. The show will feature recent collages as well as sculptural works that bring together an expansive range of materials drawn from nature and the artist’s personal archive. A self-proclaimed “artist-archaeologist,” Bown excavates, recombines and repurposes these elements to subvert long-held narratives surrounding the female body, craft traditions, language, and history. Please join us for the opening reception of this monumental exhibition on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 6-8 pm.
Nancy Bowen’s work has been included in solo and group exhibitions internationally at institutions including the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, Lesley Heller Gallery and Annina Nosei Gallery in NYC, Galerie Farideh Cadot in Paris, and more. Her work is included in collections at the Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, NY; the Peeler Art Center, Depauw University, Greencastle, IN; the Neuberger Museum, Purchase, NY; and the Weatherspoon Art Museum, Greensboro, NC. She has won awards from Anonymous was a Woman, the National Endowment of the Arts, the Jentel Foundation, the European Ceramic Work Center, and more. Her work has been written about in journals such as Art in America, Artforum, Glass Magazine, Sculpture Magazine, and a host of newspapers.
Congratulations Nancy, and happy birthday!
