Please note that due to the snow storm our galleries will be close tomorrow, Sunday, January 25. Weather-permitted, our galleries should re-open next week to regular hours (Wed-Sun, 12-6pm) for the last week of "Trisha Donnelly" and "Voice of Space: UFOs and Paranormal Phenomena."

"Trisha Donnelly" is the first exhibition devoted solely to the artist's works on paper, spanning twenty-five years of drawing practice. "Voice of Space: UFOs and Paranormal Phenomena" examines profound mysteries at the intersections of human experience, belief, and the unknown, exploring how humanity has sought to depict, interpret, and question the unexplainable and how these ideas have influenced art and culture over time.

Join us this Thursday, January 8 for a two-hour workshop with The Moth's storytelling facilitators to develop your storytelling skills in preparation for our upcoming StorySLAM event on January 15, featuring stories about UFOs and paranormal phenomena, the unknown, and mysteries of the universe.

The Moth Community Engagement Program provides the space, tools, and expertise for people to practice the art and craft of personal storytelling. In this workshop, you'll shape a life experience of your choosing into a well-crafted story. Experienced Moth instructors will guide you through recognizing the elements of a compelling story, exploring a unique story of your own, and connecting more deeply with others in the room. You can choose a story from any corner of your life—you don't need to have it identified beforehand, as brainstorming story ideas is part of the workshop.

Whether you register for this introductory workshop or not, everyone is encouraged to attend the StorySLAM on January 15, where attendees selected at random will have the opportunity to share their stories. Tap the link in our bio to register and learn more.

In 1962 at the Ealing School of Art, artist Stephen Willats participated in Roy Ascott’s Ground Course which inventively taught the principles of so-called “organic abstraction.” In Ascott’s class, Willats was introduced to the ways in which cybernetics and systems thinking can be used to analyze social behavior and how this might inform art. These concerns would guide Willats’s practice over the following decades. About his diagrammatic drawings, Willats explained, “The circle is like a ball of thought. Everything goes into it, and everything comes out—only differently.”

Works like 2019's "Travelling with the Good Connector," on view in "Voice of Space: UFOs and Paranormal Phenomena" propose speculative networks for transcending human constructs of time and dimensionality.

Last day to view "John Zorn: Hermetic Cartography" and "Ericka Beckman: Power of the Spin." To celebrate the final day of the exhibitions, our galleries will be open today with extended hours from 12-8pm.

Known predominantly as a groundbreaking figure in New York’s avant-garde and experimental music scenes, John Zorn has long been celebrated for his radical innovations in music. However, his abstract drawings—a private language of symbols and notations—have remained a closely guarded secret. "Hermetic Cartography" includes a diverse array of Zorn’s visual artworks, graphic scores, dense philosophical notations, abstract poetry and artist books, and not only highlights Zorn’s radical approach to marks on paper but also his unique Theatre of Musical Optics and other experimental projects

A filmmaker who came to prominence in the late 1970s, Ericka Beckman is considered a key figure of the Pictures Generation, a group of American conceptual artists who appropriated images from popular culture for the purpose of cultural critique. Beckman takes an emphatically handmade approach to her work, making her own props and sets, as well as elaborate preparatory drawings. Her practice deals with gameplay and systems, often adopting and subverting classic tropes like fairytales to challenge societal norms. "Power of the Spin" features more than twenty of Beckman’s drawings, ranging from sketches and storyboards to large-scale finished compositions created at different moments throughout her career. These drawings are accompanied by the continuous screening of two new films by Beckman in the lower-level gallery.

John Zorn's visual iconography (from album designs and concert announcements to his personal visual art) forms a distinct and ever-evolving language, deeply intertwined with the sound world he creates. On view in our current exhibition "John Zorn: Hermetic Cartography," this 1976 hand-drawn announcement for a solo improvisation reveals Zorn’s personal saxophone language at the time, presented within a gridded graphic matrix.

Please click link in my profile for my review of what is one of the best shows in New York of the decade. A show that has the aesthetic DNA to open a hundred possible doors for thousands of artists. “The Way I See It” may do that for art. This show should be expanded into a Musuem show.
I now see Brian Donnelly’s work, aka KAWS, the way I see the paintings of Bob Dylan. Because his overall project is so compelling that I accept all of it as part of the whole.
The first pics are the wild man Joe Coleman whose work I have looked at for decades. The second batch of pictures is of the great - a perfect t “Homage to Jerry Saltz” in which this neurodivergent artist reproduces my life in the form of my Instagram posts, my own work, my life as a long-distance truck driver and more that she gleaned from YouTube clips of me.
See this show. Thank me later.

On the occasion of "The Way I See It: Selections from the KAWS Collection," the Tokyo-based brand has partnered with to produce a line of T-shirts that feature artworks from the exhibition. "The Way I See It" features more than 350 artworks chosen by KAWS from his vast personal collection, showcasing a diverse range of artists and interpreting the term 'drawing' broadly to include comics, commercial illustrations, and graffiti sketches.
