On the occasion of this year’s March of the Living, the Oshpitzin Jewish Museum had the honor of hosting a special delegation representing Sharaka (Arabic for “partnership”), a non-governmental organization founded in 2020. The group brings together leaders and activists from both Arab and Jewish communities who work toward shaping a new Middle East through dialogue, mutual understanding, and cooperation.

One of the leaders of this year’s delegation was Muslim cleric Mohamad Tawhidi, who describes himself as the “Imam of Peace.” After visiting the grounds of the former Auschwitz concentration camp camp, the group had time for reflection and discussion in the historic Chevra Lomdei Mishnayot Synagogue, where they concluded their visit.

Within the walls of our Museum, we had the honor of hosting participants of this year's March of the Living. It was a truly special time – we were visited by nearly 500 people from all over the world, who came to pay tribute to the victims of the Holocaust.

During their visits, the groups toured our permanent exhibition and the synagogue. Thank you all for such a great turnout and for these shared moments of reflection!

Today we observe Yom HaShoah – Holocaust Remembrance Day. On this day, commemorative and memorial ceremonies are held around the world.

Families originally from Oświęcim and their relatives in Israel usually gather at the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul, Tel Aviv, by a symbolic monument. This year, however, the gathering took place virtually on 13 April (in Israel, the day is observed one day earlier).

The origins of this tradition date back to the first post-war years. The photograph shown here depicts one of these early gatherings — a Yizkor ceremony (Hebrew for “remember”), held in honor of the residents of Oświęcim, Chrzanów, and the surrounding towns who were murdered during the Holocaust.

The ceremony took place in Passau, Germany, on 18 February 1947. At that time, there was a camp there for so-called DPs (Displaced Persons) — people who arrived there after the liberation of the camps. Among them were also survivors from Oświęcim.

Today we had the honor of hosting a delegation of over 120 law enforcement leaders from the United States and Europe at the Jewish Museum and Synagogue.

The visit was part of the study program “Operationalizing Never Again: Not On Our Watch 2026”, organized jointly by the Rutgers University Miller Center on Policing and Community Resilience and the University of Virginia.

The delegation brought together police chiefs, senior officers, and experts committed to reflecting on the responsibilities of modern leadership in the face of history.

We had the pleasure of hosting a remarkable group of students from California. After a moving visit to the Auschwitz Museum, the students came to our Museum for a period of reflection and to summarize their experience together.

Afterward, the group participated in our "History Detectives" workshop. Guided by our educator, Kamil Gut, the students explored the multicultural past of Oświęcim, uncovering the personal stories of its former Jewish residents.

We are glad we could provide a space for these important conversations and for delving into local history. Thank you for your presence, your openness, and the time we spent together with us!

We have completed another inspiring training session in Dąbrowa Górnicza for 3rd-grade students!

Our educator, Karolina Turza-Prusek, along with Martyna Stec, had the pleasure of working with an engaged group of young people, preparing them to work with the traveling exhibition "Anne Frank. A History for Today." During the session, students developed their historical knowledge and communication skills, while learning how to work with a group and guide their peers through the exhibition.

This unique project is based on peer education, where young people learn from each other and engage with important topics related to history, human rights, and the modern world.

We would like to thank the group's coordinator, Anna Paś, as well as the management of the Technical School Complex in Dąbrowa Górnicza for their support and great cooperation.

The traveling exhibition is part of a new partnership between the Oshpitzin Jewish Museum and the Anne Frank House, creating a space for conversation, reflection, and building attitudes based on respect and dialogue.

Last week we hosted officers of the United States Army in Oświęcim. As part of a staff ride, participants visited the former German N**i concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau and then the Jewish Museum and Synagogue in Oświęcim, where they learned about the history of the town’s prewar Jewish community.

It was a day of cross-cultural integration and shared historical discovery! We were delighted to host a group of American students from the CET Prague Study Abroad program, joined by students from the Salesian School in Oświęcim under the care of Joanna Kosowska.

The group explored the Jewish heritage of our town during a guided tour led by our volunteer, Juliane. Afterward, they participated in the "History Detectives" workshop. Under Kamil’s guidance, the students worked with archival documents and artifacts to uncover the personal stories of Oświęcim's former Jewish residents.

We are thrilled to have witnessed such a meaningful dialogue between young people from different backgrounds, united by their interest in local heritage.

Thank you all for this inspiring visit, and we hope to see you again soon!
