Motorcyclepedia Museum's Bike of the week: 1955 “The General” Custom H-D Servi-Car
On display at the Motorcyclepedia Museum, "The General" is a stunning custom three wheeler built by Tom Owejan on the platform of a rare 1955 Harley-Davidson Model G Servi-Car, one of only 394 produced that year. Originally constructed as the centerpiece for the August 3, 2013 Purple Heart Ride, which launched from the museum to celebrate the reopening of the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor in nearby New Windsor, New York, this custom trike radiates the commanding presence of a military motorcade es**rt. It is powered by a 45 cubic inch "W" flathead V-Twin engine and beautifully showcases Harley Davidson’s debut 1955 "V" tank emblem alongside an olive drab paint scheme, G.I. white stenciling, and five small American flags on the front fender. Equipped with tactical gear like a rifle scabbard, a brass fire extinguisher, a hatchet, and solid steel rear wheels, it also features a striking upholstered high backed seat and a rear cargo box adorned with decals honoring the five branches of the U.S. Armed Forces surrounding a Purple Heart medal. While Harley Davidson's iconic utility model served small businesses and police departments for over forty years, a military contracted Servi-Car was never officially realized in production, making this custom tribute a unique historical standout, one that even captivated actor Jeremy Irons, who famously spent hours riding it around the museum's parking lots on the day it was delivered.
