Another gorgeous day, another day the shanties under the ownership of the Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce are vacant and closed. Nobody at the Chamber wants to have a discussion as to why they have been such a failure under their leadership. We’ve reached out numerous times and have been completely ignored.

There's been a lot of conversation circulating about the new "Commerce Cottages" downtown. Our very own local artist, Keith from 617 IMAGES, has written an article sharing his perspective on the recent changes.

This piece, originally published on the local website, The Townie, prompted a public response from the Chamber of Commerce addressing community feedback and concerns about the initiative.

ATTN: The Newburyport Chamber of Commerce has finally revealed what they plan to do with the (3?) Shanties. What happened to the other 2?!

**REMINDER: Been getting lots of messages. The shanties are now owned and operated by the Newburyport Chamber of Commerce. It appears that they will also not be on the waterfront this season and have been moved to this grassy area on the First Religious Society Unitarian Universalist church property, off Pleasant Street. Anyone looking to use them should contact the Chamber directly. The Chamber does not own or operate this Facebook account.

Shanties have been moved out of the courtyard. Hopefully they’ll be back next season. Waiting on the Chamber of Commerce to let us know what the plan is.

The shanties are open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11 AM to 6 PM(ish) through the weekend before Christmas! Stop by to support local artists and don’t miss Santa in his workshop when he arrives!
