is just a few weeks away, and we can't wait for all of the festivities. Here's how we're celebrating Winterfest at The Sailing Museum:

-Winterfest ticket holders get 15% off admission to The Sailing Museum (Proof of ticket/pass required)

-We're hosting a "Make Your Own Burgee" activity 2/20 & 2/22 from 2pm-4pm. Bring your imagination to The Sailing Museum and design your own Burgee that represents you. (Pst! It's a great activity for families...) Cost is $15 per person, $10 with valid Winterfest ticket.

Award season is in full swing! On display at The Sailing Museum is an Emmy given to Stan Honey.

Honey was awarded this Emmy for graphics he developed for the 34th America's Cup called "LiveLine." Just like the graphic lines you may see on the field of a live Football game, these graphics are embedded into the live footage to illustrate the progress of the race.

Harry "Buddy" Melges was born.

The Wisconsin-based “Wizard of Zenda” was at the forefront of sailing innovation his entire life. Melges established himself as one of the greatest sailors in the sport - winning more than 60 major national and international sailing championships, including two Olympic medals.

He defended the America's Cup in 1992 on America3. Buddy has been characterized as the "Grand Master" of competitive yachting. He was inducted into the National Sailing Hall of Fame in 2011.

Visitors and passer-by at The Sailing Museum are greeted by a statue in honor of Buddy Melges every day!

Happy Birthday to Rod Johnstone!

Rod grew up sailing and has always loved racing. Rod decided to build a boat for his family to compete on all together... that would be the genesis of the fabled J/24.

The Johnstones launched their first 24-footer called "Ragtime" in May of 1976, which kicked off the beginning of something amazing with the Off Soundings Club summer series overall win. Word got around, and other families became interested in this one-design hull. Rod's brother Bob came sailing, and the rest is J/Boats history, with the J/24 being one of the world's most popular keelboat classes with over 5,500 boats built and over 50,000 people actively sailing in more than 150 fleets in 40+ countries.

Have you seen the "Ragtime" at The Sailing Museum? A replica is on display in Schoonmaker Hall, and visitors can explore all aspects of this boat!
