Warmer weather, green grass, and blue skies across the Berkshires are reminding us of Amy Hauft's 2022 exhibition "700,000:1 | Terra + Luna + Sol," an installation that made visitors palpably aware of their relationship to the curve of the earth and distance from the moon.

Taking its title from the mathematical odds of a person on Earth being hit by a meteor, the centerpiece of the exhibition was entitled "700,000:1," and was constructed from two enormous spheres on the floor and the ceiling. Visitors were invited to ascend the lower sphere and place their heads in the upper sphere, invoking the feeling of being simultaneously on the ground and in the sky.

"Spatial Poems" is officially on view in MASS MoCA's Building 4 galleries!

Featuring the work of Cecilia Vicuña, Sam Frésquez, and Lola Ayisha Ogbara, the exhibition's parts work together in euphonious rhythm, creating a score or, spatial poem, across the expansive gallery. Through sound, fiber, ceramic, text, and repetition, each artist's work explores ephemerality and memory through a different lens, coming together into one multifaceted whole.

Join us in MASS MoCA’s R&D Store on Saturday, May 30, for an author talk with Rennie McDougall as he discusses his latest book “Nonstop Bodies: How Dance Shaped New York City,” a new social history of New York through dance.

In charting the stories and interconnected histories of different forms of dance, McDougall’s “Nonstop Bodies” reveals how each was fundamentally shaped by the social and historical forces of the time, as movements rumbling through the rest of the country came to a head in the singular density and diversity of New York City.

Longtime friends of MASS MoCA kick off their world tour in the Hunter Center on September 12 — and tickets are now available to all!

Across nearly two decades, Son Lux has earned its reputation for splendor and sweep, but “Out Into” is something different: a punchy suite of tactile, detail-minded songs born from dazzling moments of collective improvisation.

“We’re going places we’ve never gone before in terms of energy, attitude, color,” Lott says. “And it all comes from having reverence for those initial sparks, for treating the voice memo version of the idea as the most sacred iteration.”

We're counting down the days to Community Free Day on June 13!

The festivities begin with a performance of “HUMAN,” written and directed by Nehprii Amenii. Set in a post-human world, populated by puppets made from trash and reclaimed objects, an octopus must decide whether to use one of its three hearts to create a new, more sensitive human being. It must come to this decision with the Council at the Bottom of the Sea, made up of the spirits of Black Bodies who were thrown overboard during the Middle Passage.

Don’t miss the chance to witness this powerful performance for all ages, and check out the full Community Free Day lineup at the link in our bio ✨
