A look back at "Hacia Cuando: An Opera" performed in "Daniela Rivera: Hacia Cuando (To When)" earlier this month.

A powerful gathering of art, sound, and storytelling, this audiovisual opera performance was the result of years of collaboration between Rivera, Los Angeles–based composer and sound artist Jenny Olivia Johnson, and Argentinian experimental luthier and sound artist Javier Bustos, who built a harpsichord specifically for the piece.

Thank you to all who joined us for this moving experience, and to the artists and performers whose creativity and collaboration brought this work to life.

If you've strolled through our outdoor exhibitions, you've likely passed beneath the wings of "Michael Oatman: all utopias fell" — an invitation to climb the staircase and step into another world. On November 1, we will bid a fond farewell to the iconic installation.

The repurposed Airstream has been a visitor favorite since it appeared to have crash landed on campus in October 2010. Inspired by aeronauts like Buck Rogers, the artist imagines the shining spacecraft as a 1970s-era satellite manned by a former Sprague employee. Frozen in time, the hybrid laboratory, living space, and library is ultimately an homage to the Sun.

Climb the staircase up through the Boiler House and experience this aeronautical fantasy and beacon for curious explorers of all kinds for one last time throughout the rest of October.

On October 17, longtime New Yorker cartoonists Roz Chast and Jason Adam Katzenstein will bting their kitchen-based, witty neuroses to the Hunter Center to discuss a highly relatable topic — kitchen anxiety.

When Chast and Katzenstein admitted to having kitchens that were far from shiny beacons of homemaking, they knew they couldn’t be the only ones who left the dishes to soak for a little too long, and their co-authored book "The Two Saddest Kitchens" pulls back the curtain on our hilarious, all-too-relatable kitchen realities.

Step into Día de Mu***os with Ballet Nepantla's "Mística" in MASS MoCA's Hunter Center on October 30.

Honoring the company’s ancestors by celebrating the creative and spiritual energies of their indigenous, Afro, and Hispanic roots, Mística commemorates traditions of Día de Mu***os and transports the audience into the afterlife through the use of black light and Ballet Nepantla’s unique fusion of ballet folklorico and contemporary dance.

Today, we're taking a closer look at works by exhibiting artists Cecilia Vicuña, Sam Frésquez, and Lola Ayisha Ogbara, currently on view in "Spatial Poems" in Building 4.1.

Aiming to disrupt the art world's curatorial structures, this exhibition is presented in three concurrent parts, with curators and artists responding to the many themes in Cecilia Vicuña’s works — exploring ephemerality, memory, and cyclical repetition through a range of materials and compositional approaches.

Together, the projects can be understood as a score or spatial poem, created by curators and artists working in a euphonious rhythm, inspiring a dialogue on care, social relations, and the organization of new forms of being and processes as an act of refusal to the current precaritization of the art world.

As the bass player for the iconic ’90s alternative rock bands Hole and Smashing Pumpkins, Melissa Auf der Maur toured the world, documenting life backstage, onstage, and in the crowd. By the time she joined Hole’s "Live Through This" world tour, a roll of 35mm film was on the rider at every venue.

On Saturday, October 10, experience Daniela Rivera's recently opened exhibition "Hacia Cuando (To When)" in a new way and join us for "Hacia Cuando: An Opera" — a cross-geographical experimental opera-performance created in the mode of an exquisite co**se — bringing together the creative practices of composer and sound artist Jenny Olivia Johnson, Argentinian experimental luthier and sound artist Javier Bustos, Chilean opera singer and stage director Sebastián Muirhead, and exhibiting artist Daniela Rivera.

Later, add a stop at the Research and Development Store between each of the opera performances for a conversation with Rivera, "Hacia Cuando: An Opera" collaborators, and MASS MoCA Curator Evan Garza.
