Berkshire Art Museum presents “That '70s Show,” an exhibition of art created in the 1970s by artists with a Berkshires connection; "Fresh Paint Gallery," an exhibition featuring new work by area artists changing monthly; "Then and Now" featuring new work by select artists in the companion exhibition, "That '70s Show" (opening July 30). Also featured are select works by Eric Rudd from the permanent

collection, including an installation of sculptures on the newly-created "Iceberg." STATEMENT FROM THE DIRECTOR

Berkshire Art Museum is about the Berkshires and the artists who reside here, demonstrating the remarkable artistic talent living and working in our backyard. The Berkshires, of course, are rich in museums, but only BAM focuses on regional names. That’s the cultural niche – the void – we are pleased to fill. MASS MoCA, the DownStreet Art festival, and a vibrant artistic community make North Adams the heart of our county’s visual arts scene. Our hope: BAM will facilitate a means by which all Berkshire artists can more easily contribute to this energy. With utmost gratitude, we extend thanks to our initial supporters: Barbara and Robert Bashevkin; Bona Marketing; Cire Corporation; Deanna and David Atwell; Donald W. Dix; Lynch Scrimo Attorneys; Massachusetts Cultural Council; Mountain View Painters; Outlook Builders; R. Miles; Scieszka Mechanical; Smith Watson & Co.

Berkshire Art Museum’s postponement of the 2020 season.

For a small museum, installing our 2020 seasonal exhibitions - which takes a large portion of our budget and involves more than 35 artists - is a major undertaking. With the uncertainty of when we could open under current circumstances and the prospect of a very diminished viewership, and in consultation with our artists and advisory board members, the Berkshire Art Museum has decided to postpone this season’s exhibitions until next year.

This comes as no surprise as several other cultural organizations have also decided to cancel their season. For most cultural venues, there’s a lot of work involved, the logistics are complicated, and expenses are too high to commit for a doubtful start-date and outcome.

Instead, we will take the summer to work on some infrastructure repairs and upgrades. (Hint: you might see a very large cherry-picker/lift on our lawn very soon.)

However, we wanted everyone to know that we were very excited about this season’s exhibitions and we have every intention of presenting these shows next summer/fall. We hope the community will continue to support our efforts during these hard times, and that we’ll get the 2021 season off with a bang!

See you next year.

P.S. We have no idea about the 22nd Annual Eagle Street Beach – so stay tuned.

BERKSHIRE ART MUSEUM

The Berkshire Art Museum’s mission is to showcase engaging contemporary art through rotating exhibitions as well as to preserve and examine five decades of artwork by Eric Rudd in the museum’s permanent collection.

Rescuing two historic former churches, the Berkshire Art Museum exemplifies the adaptive reuse of architectural space for cultural purposes. By establishing and maintaining this unique art destination, the Berkshire Art Museum aims to contribute to the cultural economy of North Adams.

Supported in part and under the umbrella of the Barbara and Eric Rudd Art Foundation, a 501c3 not-for-profit organization, as well as generous donors. All donations are tax deductible.

We have never scheduled so far in advance –
