Welcome to Dragon Fly Farm and Stables, a lifelong dream come true nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada between Auburn and Lincoln, California on a private road. This is the wild, rural, California of the gold rush era in its raw and natural form. Here the only sounds you will hear are the singing of the birds and the distant rush of our “secret” waterfall. One could spend the entire day
here and only be in the company of the local flora and fauna. The only “gridlock” encountered here on our roads is due to the free-range cattle and wild turkeys. Our ranch is located on a high hilltop where we enjoy a spectacular microclimate and a panoramic view of the Sacramento Valley. You can spy downtown Sacramento to the south, a stunning view of Sutter Butte to the north, and the valley below full of rice paddies and orchards all the way to the coastal range and Mt Diablo in the Bay Area. Please stay tuned as we endeavor to offer short term stabling and many other services in the near future. Come and board your horse with us on 40 acres of pasture. We have stalls with runs or cross-fenced pasture board (horse safe fencing) with shelter available. We are conveniently located in the heart of some of the most spectacular trail riding anywhere to be found. Within a half-hour country drive you can ride at many local parks, including Spenceville Wildlife area, Cronan Ranch, Folsom Lake, and the granddaddy of them all, the end of the Western States Trail (Tevis). Within an hour you can reach many more fantastic trails including the Empire Mine in Grass Valley and the vast trail systems out of Cool, Foresthill, and Nevada City. With the upcoming approved expansion of the trail network in Hidden Falls park, our ranch will be smack dab in the middle of a 60 mile multi-use trail network that extends from the south edge of Hidden Falls park to the Bear River, all accessible right from here with no need to trailer out! Or just ride the quiet, private roads and ranch trails straight out of our gate. Enjoy the area all on your own or Melinda would be happy to take you on the trails! We are a perfect layover/landing pad for riders coming in to do Tevis or the Tevis ed ride, or many other local endurance rides! Auburn is the “endurance capital of the world”. We have so many plans and projects in the works here at the ranch. Already in process are the building of a pasture fishing pond, and a freeform in ground swimming pool with built in hot tub and grotto. Come enjoy our spectacular “wine cave”, built entirely from rocks unearthed from the ranch, and complete with a 15th century monastery door! Owner, Melinda, is an avid gardener and cook and plans to offer homemade edible treats and even soaps and skin balms made from natural ingredients grown right here. There is even talk of someday offering farm-to-table dinners with our spectacular sunset views, or weddings here at the ranch. Also in progress is plans to breed and train more trail and endurance horses, with an expansion and improvement of our outdoor arena and round pen, and adding a horse exerciser/eurociser. We currently have full hookups for RV, with plans to add more. We have a full circle driveway that is accessible to large rigs. Additional future plans including raising sheep, goats, and pigs here at the ranch. Melinda endeavors to try her hand at spinning wool and growing natural dyes for it. We would also love to have milk from the sheep and goats to make cheeses and to serve as a base for botanical products such as soaps. We already have a healthy garden of florals, vegetables, herbs and fruit trees with plans for many more to come! Please come and be our guest in the future. Whether you want a getaway weekend from the city, or to ride our local trails or just to enjoy our beautiful oasis as much as we do. We have a nice guest bedroom with private entrance, private bathroom, and access to the laundry room. As mentioned we also plan to provide additional RV hookups and camping. Bring your dog and/or horses! Lots of room to run here with safe fencing and a gated entry. It’s a short, beautiful drive to either Auburn or Lincoln, both lovely cities with small town charm, plenty of gold rush history and historic downtowns with excellent dining and recreation opportunities to be had. This area is an absolute mecca for outdoor activities including hiking, river rafting on the American River, biking, horseback riding, and so much more. Explore the local history by visiting an old gold mine or museum or winery. Or, just find a nice hammock spot in the trees and relax! The options are endless. Come on out and enjoy!
