Tomorrow night! Please come join.
Please join the North Berwick Historical Society at the D. A.
Hurd Library on May 14th at 6:30 p.m. for a presentation on
the largest battle of the War of the Three Kingdoms, which in-
cluded the two English Civil Wars. This series of conflicts in-
volving the Scots, Irish, and English lasted from 1639 to 1653.
It's history, and many of the protagonists would have been fa-
miliar to the Scottish POWs who were forced to resettle in
what would become the United States.
At Marston Moor, the Parliamentary army and their allies, the
Scots, met the army of King Charles for one of the most deci-
sive confrontations that would eventually lead to the downfall
and ex*****on of the king. It is also the battle where Oliver
Cromwell and David Leslie were comrades in arms. By 1651,
the two commanders would be on opposite sides at the Battles
of Dunbar and Worcester, where our Scottish POWs were captured.
