Oil on canvas. Mount Jefferson in background, named for Thomas Jefferson. Signed LR; signed and inscribed verso, in original frame. Frame size: 21" high, 31 1/4" wide.

In 1868 Fitch and Winslow Homer painted together on the Presidential Range of New Hampshire's White Mountains. Winslow Homer famously painted himself, Homer Dodge Martin and John Lee Fitch sketching on a bare mountainside under white umbrellas that might be on Mount Washington. “Artists Sketching in the White Mountains” Portland Museum of Fine Art.
