We Want the World and We Want it Now: Kayla Henriquez + Jose Garcia. What have they done to the earth, yeah? What have they done to our fair sister? -The Doors (When the Music's Over)
Under the bridge art space is pleased to present, "We Want the World and We Want it Now: Kayla Henriquez + Jose Garcia," curated by cultural practitioner, william cordova, opening July 21, 2024, from 4 - 6 PM. This exhibition is part of the AMP (Art Mentoring Program) cordova and Artist Yanira Collado created at Under the Bridge Art Space inside Bridge Red Studios in 2022. "We want the World and We Want it Now," brings together, South Florida based AMP mentee artists, Kayla Henriquez and Jose Garcia. Their multi media exhibition will consist of large and small scale works on paper and sculpture. Both Kayla and Jose are interested in ecological and topographical themes that include, geometry, color theory, domination and harmony.
AND...upstairs at Bridge Red Studios/Project Space, "Jacksonfive" curated by + william cordova; a group exhibition by five contemporary artists from Jackson, Mississippi that includes painters, Sherrell Ford, Sabrina Howard, modern dancer, Doshia Collins and filmmakers Christopher Windfield and Talamieka Brice. The five artists are part of a Peer-to-Peer program Collado created during her 2023-2024 tenure as artist in residence at the Center for Art and Public Exchange (CAPE), within the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson Mississippi. Collado's Peer-to-Peer program included workshops with guest professional visual artist/activist, Chire "Vanta Black" Regans, filmmakers, Tarell Alvin McCraney, Eddie Brown, photographer/videographer, Michiko Kurisu, interdisciplinary cultural practitioner, william cordova and Ivy S. Bennett, contemporary dancer and a director of programing at Arts 4 Learning, Miami.
