Salton Sea History Museum

Salton Sea History Museum Our mission is to provide education about the history of the Salton Sea and the urgent need for its restoration.

Our visitor center offers UP TO DATE information on facts about the sea and area points of interests. Acquisition of property near the restored North Shore Yacht Club through fundraising is the goal for securing a new building, while we await more positive changes in the governance of the building allowing us to occupy our intended home. The $3+ million dollar restored historic Yacht Club continue

s to partially house a community center for North Shore, with a total population of fewer than 3,000. While the dual purposes of the museum and community center worked well together previously, the space formerly occupied by the museum offices and archive room are now left empty and the space once occupied by the museum itself is only sporadically used.

RUMORS AROUND THE COMMUNITY PERSIST... let's ask John Benoit if he is washing his hands of the yacht club and turning it over lock, stock, and barrel to the Recreation District. The inappropriate use of the iconic building has already resulted in lots of damage to this Salton Sea mid-century modern treasure. He needs to turn it over to the museum and get out of the way-after he repairs all the damage it has sustained.
