Anchor House of Artists

Anchor House of Artists A place where professionals & the self-taught find equal stance within a mission of creative freedom Anchor House of Artists celebrates art on a human scale.

The mission: To support and expand creative careers for artists living with mental illnesses, To fight the social stigma that they face, and To contribute to the cultural enrichment of Western Massachusetts and beyond. Anchor House of Artists is a place to find Outsider and Visionary Art in debut exhibitions and in curated collections. We show both professionals and amateurs, building a creative p

arity that introduces both groups to new directions. Let the artists speak. We maintain subsidized studio space to support artists living with mental illnesses. We extend the chance to build studio lives, to make new work, and find an enthusiastic audience. Here, the chance for artists to share helpful resources and to learn about art show opportunities, employment or grants makes the association with the studio a real benefit to both experienced and emerging artists. We invite the debate into question of what is art. Anchor House of Artists is a place where artists join others to belong, to build new paths, to experiment with new self-definitions, to launch new work, but the Anchor House of Artists is also a *place to return* and find a new welcome. We place human value on the products of creative people. We respect self-expression. We make a crucible for launching new ideas, completing sprouted ones, and developing audience. We offer the platform for artists to sell their work and the opportunity to purchase collectable artworks. We provide assistance to artists in making helpful linkages and accessing services and grants. Find public talks, spoken word, music, and events within our walls and participate in the launch of creative experiments here. Follow us Instagram, too!

Last summer, on a perfect June day, when the meadowsweet was in full bloom, Beaudet brought a show of small paintings along the trail of the Graves Wildlife Center in Williamsburg. It was brilliant. She brings the same intimacy to Gallery 1, 2, & 3 in a way that announces the arrival of Autumn. She describes herself as a painter & woodswalker offering tiny vignettes that explore the earth's cycles, mortality, and meaning through the eyes of the Forests, Waterworlds, & the UnderEarth places.

All of October. See website NEVA-museum.org

Our Ben Gilbert exhibit is up in the museum wing until August!

Ben Gilbert is a self-taught artist from Portland, Oregon. He employs basic materials to create this exhibition of 80 wax drawings on corrugated soda bottle box liners. His statement: ...a blank canvas... the pristine wall of a Pearl loft just waiting for impish hands to add a splash of chaotic color... detritus on the street... from the distance looking at something that fell off a truck... with a closer look... a face, a pattern appears... gold out of floss. That is how I started. That is the core..."
