Archives Adventures- Happy Memorial Day weekend. We recently received a donation regarding the life of Northfielder LaVerne F. Lowe Jr., who was killed in action on November 23, 1944, in Merzonhauson, Germany. He is interred at the American Military Cemetery in Margraten, Netherlands. The donation comprises numerous letters addressed to his parents, residents of 506 Winona St., whose father operated a Real Estate and Insurance business located in the Scriver Building. The Lowe family is extended gratitude from a grateful town.

THE (NEW) JUNIOR CURATOR PROGRAMS

The Junior Curator program is a summer volunteer opportunity for students in 8th grade who have an interest in local history, putting together exhibits, learning how museums are run and want a positive learning experience this summer!

There are two separate opportunities in the Junior Curator (a student may apply to one or both) which include:

Exhibits Program: Students will receive hands on experience in how a museum operates. They will assist in creating an exhibit, promote the museum at our tent in the Riverwalk Market Fair on Bridge Square, and gain retail experience through their work in the museum store from window displays to the sales counter.

Archives Program: The Northfield History Center is often referred to as the “Northfield’s Attic” because it is a storehouse for thousands of documents and objects from its earliest history to the recent past. Students will learn how a museum operates behind the scenes by participating in artifact collection, preparation and preservation. In addition, volunteers will gain a better understanding local history!

Archive Adventures- When Castle Rock had a Castle Rock! Castle Rock was named this rock formation. The formation, known to Dakota Native Americans as Inyan Bosdata or "Rock Standing on End", was also the namesake of the nearby Inyan Bosdata Wakpa, known today as the Cannon River.
Erosion finally wore the castle down, and it's a lump of limestone now.
