5x7: Small Works Community Exhibit
The Garrett County Arts Council invites the community to help fill the Special Exhibit Gallery with artwork created by the people of Garrett County.

Inspired by the size of a greeting card, every piece in this exhibit will fit inside a 5×7 frame. GCAC will provide matching frames for the exhibit. Artists and creatives are invited to provide the work that goes inside them.

Participation is open to all ages, experience levels, and creative styles. Artists do not need to be juried into The Gallery Shop to participate. Whether creating paintings, doodles, collages, photography, sewing, comics, poetry, or something new- all forms of creativity and all skill levels are welcome! Students are encouraged to participate.

Submitted artwork may not include any branded or trademarked characters or logos as well as any overtly religious or political content. Artwork may not include any fur, hair, bones, or feathers. Artwork may not include obscene language such as profanity or slurs.

Artists may submit up to 3 finished pieces. Work should be vertical (5 inches on top & bottom, 7 inches on sides) unframed, low relief, and able to fit inside a standard 5×7 frame.

Artwork may be marked either For Sale or Not For Sale. Artists choosing to sell their work may either receive 70% of the sale price, consistent with The Gallery Shop commission structure, or donate proceeds to support GCAC programming.

There is no fee to participate.

Signing up early guarantees a spot on the wall. Artwork will continue to be accepted until gallery space or frames run out.

Artwork is physically due to GCAC by noon on June 18th. The exhibit will open June 20th during the Town of Oakland’s Kick Off to Summer and remain on display through August 20th.

Artwork pickup will take place August 20th through September 1st.

Any artwork not picked up by September 2nd will become property of GCAC.

Let’s show off what Garrett County can do.

IN SEARCH OF ARTISTS

Garrett County Habitat for Humanity is organizing a summer Bear Crawl fundraiser, featuring a limited number of hand-carved wooden bears sponsored and displayed by local businesses throughout the county.

Some participating businesses are looking to hire artists to assist with painting and finishing their bears. While this is not a Garrett County Arts Council project, we are happy to help facilitate connections as a courtesy to Garrett County Habitat for Humanity.

GCAC is compiling a list of artists to share with interested businesses.

How it works:

Businesses will contact artists directly
Scope, timeline, and design will be determined by the business and artist payment will be arranged directly between the business and artist.
You DO NOT need to be a juried Artist with The Gallery Shop.

Please indicate your interest this week by sending an email to Artistic Programs Manager Rachel Precht ([email protected]).

Include your name, business or studio name, email, and phone number for the business to contact you.
If you have a going rate to paint a 4ft sculpture, please include that as well.

Indicating Interest does not commit you to a project - you can always change your mind if the business's expectations do not meet your own as you negotiate a deal.

Artist list will be sent to businesses on Friday April 24th, 2026

So we've extended the deadline to April 23, 2026 for stamp design submissions!

My sincerest of apologies to our artists for the oversight. Please send me an email if you have any questions - or with your submission!
