Aggregate Space Gallery

Aggregate Space Gallery Mission and Purpose: Aggregate Space Gallery (ASG) is an exhibition and performance space dedicated to the exploration and presentation of immersive works.

ASG is a charitable, artist-run exhibition and performance space in West Oakland that prioritizes the exhibition of artwork that generally can’t be seen elsewhere – our mantra is “Install the Unimaginable.” Our mission is to provide extensive in-house resources and expertise that enable artists to promote intellectual and tangible artworks in a public platform. We showcase video and installation a

rtworks, films, lectures, and performances by innovative regional artists and thinkers whose work ignites critical dialogue. VISION: ASG envisions an Oakland where a diverse community of artists can make and experience art in a safe space with access to production tools and hands-on guidance, creating work that fuels critical dialogue in a time when it is desperately needed.

Tonight! Join us from 6-9pm for the opening reception of “Khamsa”, a multimedia art exhibition showcasing 20 Black, Muslim, Immigrant, and Refugee visual artists and musicians traversing the five stages of grief.

“Khamsa” aims to address the different forms and contexts of grief, weaving both personal and universal experiences of loss. From the personal pain of losing a loved one, to the toll of Islamophobia and prejudice, Khamsa will draw in each and every one of us while bringing the stories and experiences of Black, Muslim, Immigrant, and Refugee artists to the forefront. This is a project to find harmony in our shared stories, bridging differences in cultures, beliefs, and history.

Tickets are sliding scale, and no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

Opening Reception:
Tonight: September 2nd from 6 - 9 PM at Aggregate Space Gallery in Oakland for an evening of art and conversation. RSVP at artogether.org/khamsa

Join us on Friday, September 2, 2022 from 6 - 9 PM for the Opening Reception of “Khamsa” hosted by Aggregate Space Gallery.

Khamsa, the Arabic word for “five,” is a multimedia art exhibition showcasing twenty Black, Muslim, Immigrant, and Refugee visual artists and musicians traversing the five stages of grief. Khamsa will immerse participants within the heart and mind of the project through a musical and visual journey of the five stages of grief. The exhibition will be paired with a hip hop album release with music by the featured music artists.

Khamsa aims to address the different forms and contexts of grief, weaving both personal and universal experiences of loss. From the personal pain of losing a loved one, to the toll of Islamophobia and prejudice, Khamsa will draw in each and every one of us while bringing the stories and experiences of Black, Muslim, Immigrant, and Refugee artists to the forefront. Khamsa is a project to find harmony in our shared stories, bridging differences in cultures, beliefs, and history.

This project is a collaboration between Guled Muse, GAMA: Gathering All Muslim Artists, and ARTogether, and is made possible with support from Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art’s Building Bridges Program.
