Johansson Projects Contact information, map and directions, contact form, opening hours, services, ratings, photos, videos and announcements from Johansson Projects, Art Gallery, 2300 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland, CA.

Johansson Projects is a contemporary art gallery that functions as curatorial laboratory, creating exhibitions that pair established and internationally-recognized artists with up-and-coming locals. With no show confined purely to gallery walls it prompts viewers to actively engage with artists who explore the mysteries embedded in modernity often using unorthodox materials and methods. Johansson

Projects is a locus for curators, collectors, and artists to connect and engage in dialogue with the larger art community both regionally and nationally.

360 degree view of Soojin Choi's "Hold on to Me", glaze on stoneware, 21 x 20 x 7.5 in.

Soojin Choi's humanoid sculptures delicately intertwine; holding onto each other as though their fragile enmeshment is the only thing keeping the figures from collapsing. Their contorted anatomy foregrounds their alterity, evoking the complexity of human connection, individuation, and the construction of the other.

Forgotten Eyes, an exhibition paintings by Pablo Benzo and sculptures by Soojin Choi. On view at Johansson Projects until May 30. For all inquiries contact [email protected]

Join us today, as a part of Oakland Art Murmur, from 5-8pm for the opening reception of "Forgotten Eyes" an exhibition of sculptures by Soojin Choi and paintings by Pablo Benzo. Both artists work at the intersection of figuration and abstraction, and their dream-like worlds reveal truths about human perception and connection.

‘He reflects on the Bolivian sociologist Silvia Rivera Cusicanqui who wrote about the concept of ch’ixi – an Aymara word referring to the juxtaposition of two contrasting colours – two parallel identities that do not extinguish each other but instead exist side by side in an antagonistic relationship. ‘That resonates both with my sense of who I am and the art I make.’ From Beck Jobson’s writing in the new publication, Textilexart

By incorporating personal photographs into her painted interiors, Nimah Gobir's work interrogates the nature of portraiture, memory, and nostalgia through intimate representations of family life. This mixed-media work collapses time and space, leaving the viewer in a kaleidoscope of memories that diffuse into the present moment.

See Nimah's new painting "Fat Cheeks," on view at the gallery for Black History Month. We'll be open for extended hours today, from 1-8pm, for Oakland Art Murmur. See you there!

Catch Susie Taylor’s double weave in the soft opening for The Woven Pixel this Thursday. Running January 29th, 2026 — May 10th, 2026 at San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles, 520 South First Street, San Jose

This exhibition explores the rise of digital weaving which emerged in the early 2000s. It brings together a variety of work by artists and designers who experiment with digital looms and jacquard software. It pays tribute to two artists in particular, Bhakti Ziek and Alice Schlein, who wrote The Woven Pixel (2006), which quickly became something of a bible for weavers in art, design and industry—-and referenced still today. Because every intersection of warp and weft represents a pixel, weaving seamlessly merged with the earliest computer technologies. Today digital weavers are altering the landscape of contemporary art and design using algorithmic painterliness, expressive structures and flexible parametric forms. Curated by Sarah Mills.
