Call for Volunteers!

If you like nature, history and meeting new people, then volunteering at the Silver River Museum is the place for you!

We provide training, museum shirts and worker’s compensation insurance. Applicants must pass a background screening with Marion County Public Schools.

Current openings...


Blacksmith Shop – Demonstrate simple blacksmithing in the pioneer village blacksmith shop. There are openings for 4th grade fieldtrips on weekdays and Saturday village tours for the public during the cooler months.


Gardens and Grounds – There are several planted areas near the museum with Florida Natives and two gardens in the pioneer village in need of a “green thumb.” If you like plants, we could sure use your help.


Public Events – Help is always needed for big public events like Ocali Country Days. Volunteers work as museum and pioneer village docents, door greeters and help with hands-on craft activity stations.

As summer comes to an end and we prepare to welcome students back for Marion County Public Schools field trips, we wanted to share a glimpse of how we spend our time when the museum isn’t filled with school groups.

Some of our favorite visitors are the wonderful participants from The Arc Marion County, FL. Their curiosity, enthusiasm, and excitement make every visit a joy, and we’re always grateful for the opportunity to share the museum with them.

We wish everyone a safe and successful back-to-school season, and we look forward to welcoming students back to the Silver River Museum very soon!
