Public opinion on cannabis has shifted in a major way. A new Pew Research Center poll found that the vast majority of Americans now support ma*****na legalization in some form.
According to the survey:
• 55% of U.S. adults support legalizing cannabis for both recreational and medical use
• 33% support legalizing medical ma*****na only
• Just 11% believe cannabis should remain fully illegal
Support spans across party lines, with:
💙 67% of Democrats supporting full legalization
❤️ 44% of Republicans supporting full legalization
🌿 Many Americans across both parties agreeing that cannabis reform is overdue
The strongest support comes from younger adults under 30, while support also continues to grow among Black and white Americans nationwide.
The poll also found that:
• People living in legal states are more likely to say current cannabis laws are “about right”
• Americans in prohibition states are more likely to feel ma*****na laws are too strict
• Public support for legalization has remained consistently high since 2019
This adds to a growing list of recent national surveys showing most Americans support cannabis reform, home grow rights and expanded medical ma*****na access.
The conversation around cannabis is no longer “if” legalization should happen it’s increasingly becoming “how.” 🌱
What do you think? Has the federal government fallen behind public opinion? 👀
