Lynde Point Lighthouse

Lynde Point Lighthouse Lynde Point Lighthouse is located in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. The lighthouse is not currently open to the public.

This page is managed and operated by the Keepers of the Light Foundation, a participant in the NHLPA application process for the transfer and ultimate ownership of the Light Station. Regular updates will be provided on this page until a new caretaker is appointed, and ownership will be transferred accordingly.

Captain Wincapaw achieved hero status among lighthouse families on December 25th, 1929, as he skillfully piloted his plane, delivering toys and gifts to the families of lighthouse keepers awaiting below.

In December 1988, Flying Santa paid a visit to Lynde Point, this time by helicopter. Santa provided presents and treats for the families residing here.

Today, the Friends of Flying Santa continues to uphold this legacy, providing gifts and memories to Coast Guard families. Additionally, the group preserves and archives the historical photographs and videos like the one pictured here.
