SHARE! SHARE! SHARE! Please see the article below about what is going on in our community. It is important for all of us to remember that Loves Jazz & Arts Center has been the anchor of 24th and Lake since 2005. The revitalization of 24th and Lake began with Love’s. Love’s is a place of purpose for celebrating African-American culture. It is a place for keeping the legacy of Jazz music alive, educating young people and showing historical art exhibits.

At this time we need the community, city officials, and those who are putting money into North Omaha to circle around us as we keep the legacy of Love’s Jazz & Arts Center alive.

The purchases could shape redevelopment efforts in the area, and some in the community worry that they haven't been involved in those plans.

We have determined it is in the community's best interest to remain closed, based on advice from federal, state and local health agencies. This decision became the obvious choice when, over the weekend, Governor Pete Ricketts reported Nebraska's first case of Covid-19 acquired through community contact. The decision also has been reinforced by recommendations from state officials to discontinue large public events, programs and gatherings.

In response, all programs and events at Love's Jazz & Arts Center are cancelled through March 31st.

Sincerely,

LJAC Board of Directors

Good Morning All:

On October 31, Officers of the Board of Directors met with Mayor Jean Stothert and some of her key staff to discuss the Love’s Jazz & Arts Center, both its current and future states. The meeting was an important one as the Love’s Jazz & Arts Center is housed in two buildings owned by the City of Omaha.

The group discussed the rumors that have been circulating around town that the Mayor’s intent is to shut down the Center. Nothing could be further from the truth! Mayor Stothert stated, multiple times during the meeting, that she has no intent to shut down Love’s Jazz & Arts Center, nor has she intended to in the past. The tone of the meeting was one of support and partnership. The Mayor strongly supports the Center’s mission and vision which honors Omaha’s own, Preston Love, Sr. and the legacy of the many jazz musicians from Omaha who shaped and influenced the jazz we enjoy today.

The discussion continued about the future of Love’s Jazz & Arts Center to expand its reach to youths and their families in North Omaha and across the City through educational programs including music, culture and a focus on the contributions and historical significance of the 24th & Lake Arts Corridor. The group also reviewed and agreed upon the Center’s 3-year strategic plan.

The Board of Directors is grateful for the Mayor’s support and looks forward to building a strong partnership to help the Love’s Jazz & Arts Center reach the full impact for which it was intended, locally and nationally.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, Thank you!

Timothy L. Christian
Love's Jazz & Arts Center
Board President

Join us December 14the for THE MUSIC OF VINCE GUARALDI AND THE PEANUTS.

We all know the sound of this mastermind pianist and composer when we hear it. With a heavy bossa nova influence and groovy pop stylings, one can easily pick out the music that was written for the Charlie Brown cartoon specials.
