The Art Galleries at Oneonta are dedicated to the exhibition of fine art and are a cultural resource for both the College and the greater Community. Admission and programs are free of cost and open to the public. A wide range of diverse art is shown throughout the year, complemented by gallery talks and workshops.

The galleries also serve as a student forum, hosting the Annual Juried Student Exhibition each spring and multiple student proposed exhibitions in the Project Space Gallery. Providing valuable exposure and experience to our students by showcasing their best work.

Today, we're sharing another Digital Capstone student, Hannah Hasselbarth (), and her work, Liminal. This video is an introduction to a story and world created, illustrated, and animated by Hannah. The display on campus includes still images as well showing the character design and environmental work, as well.

The Capstone: 2026 is an annual exhibition presenting work created by upper-level SUNY Oneonta Art students. This exhibition showcases some of the highest caliber art being produced on campus and includes final pieces created in both the Studio and Digital Capstone Courses taught in the spring semester. It features work by Nadia Anchundia, Hayley Baker, Jack Brady, Madison Budek, Jack Carrozzo, Destiana De Jesus, Tessa DeLisio, Ryan Eno, Vick Ferrarie, Bijou Francois, Hannah Hasselbarth, Nate Inzerillo, Amy Kosina, Evelyn Mead, Lake Morrissey, Olivia Pedersen, Shamare Perdue, Samantha Pickering, Mordue Reinhardt, Lexi Rockefeller, Camilla Tabor, Sean Villafuerte Hughes, Justin Zammiello, and Zoe Zappala. Congratulations Red Dragons, class of 2026! The Capstone Show opened with Commencement and we had so much fun showing off your hard work to friends and family!! In our new, annual tradition, we'll be spending the summer highlighting each student's work from the show, including both Digital and Studio Capstone.

First, we're sharing Digital Capstone student and recent Gallery Intern, Zoe Zappala's (.scribble) work, The Launch of Se Estira! Zoe wrote and illustrated a full length comic about a young superhero named Se Estira. She had professionally printed comics to read, a large poster, and stickers to take. Look out for Zoe Zapp at comic stores in the near future, including a lucky signing near Poughkeepsie (Zoe, tell us where in the comments!)

Of course, this installation has already changed since these photos were taken...as with any show, the photographs are one of the few things left after the exhibition ends. However, with Day of the Deer, each photo documents a moment in time over a year long show before the installation grows again. It's an exploration of process, discovery and curiosity, and odocumentation.

In other news, the Galleries may be largely closed over the summer but this installation will remain open! If you're visiting campus on a tour, for an event, or just hanging out, come by and chill on the couch, dance in the "grass," and look at the art 🦌.

Day of the Deer | Alissa Walls
Open Space Gallery

Reception: Thursday, September 24, 5-7 p.m.

Day of the Deer is a year-long, process-oriented installation by artist and art historian, Dr. Alissa Walls (SUNY Oneonta Art Department, Assistant Professor of Art History | ). It stands as a unique exhibition in that it seeks no clear beginning or end. Over the course of the year, Walls will add new elements each day to inspire people to return often as she transforms the Open Space Gallery into a playful and uncanny environment with sacred offerings, real and representational deer, found and purchased objects, and numerous drawings, prints, painting, sculptures, and projection. This installation breaks material boundaries, encourages play, and invites viewers to broaden their understanding of what art is, how it can be pursued, and what topics it can explore while alluding to the potential to break social, cultural, and ideological barriers. Day of the Deer poses challenging questions about dominant social structures, cultural hierarchies, and the relationship between the natural world and the built environment in the age of the Anthropocene. These topics become approachable and accessible in an atmosphere of creativity, fun, and exploration.

Slow changes over many days, this time of year always has us thinking about that: over a show, a semester, a year...four years. Today's the last day of classes, Sat is the last day of Change is the Only Constant, a very apt show for graduation season. We'll be open tomorrow from 11am-4pm, don't miss the incredible work by Tessa DeLisio (), Anjali Malcomson (.4li), and Sidney Rabeck ()!

We're installing the Capstone Show next week while you wrap up finals and enjoy the spring weather with your friends. For our graduating seniors, come by the Martin-Mullen after you walk to check out the show and celebrate your peers one last time!

Change is the Only Constant | Tessa DeLisio, Anjali Malcomson, and Sidney Rabeck
Project Space Gallery

In Change is the Only Constant, the nuance and uncertainty of life's major stages are represented in a semi-chronological cycle of life. Every piece of the natural world operates cyclically, from the interaction of the moon's phases with our bodies, to the rise and fall of the tides, the coming and going of the seasons, and the rotation of the earth. We, as humans, are not separate from this; each of our trajectories in the larger cycle of our lives coincides with the consistent rhythm of change. Change is the only constant - it is the paradoxical nature of the life cycles we all exist within. What will we hold onto through these transitions? Even reminders of the past are subject to the inevitability of transformation; photographs will fade as surely as memories. As artists, we capture moments that help us carry pieces of our lives with us. We experiment with time, asking questions like: How long can this stay? How will it change? This mixed media exhibition explores these questions and the cyclical nature of our lives through time-based media, narrative prints, and symbolic ceramics and sculptures, asking viewers to reinterpret their relationship with time, change, and the expected and unexpected events that tie us all together.

What an amazing turn out last week for our 2026 Juried Student Show reception! Thank you to everyone who came out, thank you to the artists, thank you to the string quartet, and thank you to the Art Dept.

Today we're sharing the final group of awardees for the 2026 show, the Jean Parish Art on Campus awardees. These five works are now officially a part of the SUNY Oneonta collection and will be sent to be framed before finding a home for public display on campus!
