Vendedoras de Flores, Alfredo Ramos Martinez

At the invitation of Millard Sheets, Alfredo Ramos Martinez arrived in Claremont and designed 100 foot fresco, The Flower Vendors, for the Margaret Fowler Garden on the Scripps campus. He had only sketched in the work and painted a small portion before his death on November 8, 1946. Ramos Martinez‘s presence, though brief, and his Fowler Garden mural embodied the respect for the Mexican mural movement shared among artists of the Claremont community.

Come see the many murals depicted in our Walls that Speak: Chicana/o Mural Art, 1970s-1990’s, that truly represent and inspire the many Chicana/o voices of their generation. Their artistry still lives among all of us as a reminder of their vibrant existence, despite their political, social, and cultural struggles.

CCMA Presents the March ONT Art at the Airport Displaying Artists!

Did you know that since 2018, CCMA has managed the art program at the Ontario International Airport? Passengers who are waiting for flights can view art created by the many talented artists who live and work within the geographic area served by ONT. Art is displayed in glass cases near departure gates in both terminals and in terminal walkways and change regularly.

Chaffey Community Museum of Art is delighted to continue this wonderful partnership for many years to come! We hope you all have safe travels this fall, do not forget to explore our many display cases at the amazing Ontario International Airport.

Did you also know you can see these display cases without a plane ticket? Go to the ONT website to apply for the ONT+ Visitor Pass Program that allows non-travelers to visit the airport amenities!

Important Board of Directors Announcement

It is with regret that the Board of Directors of the Chaffey Community Museum of Art has accepted the resignation of Dr. Wendy Slatkin as CCMA board member and exhibit chair. In her letter of resignation, Wendy cited personal reasons, including her desire to spend more time with her family and new grandchild and the need to reevaluate her volunteer commitments.

CCMA deeply appreciates Wendy’s two years of service to CCMA. During her tenure as exhibit chairman she brought scholarship and a focus on artists of the Pomona Valley to the museum. This, combined with the two books she wrote and CCMA published, is her legacy.
