Hello everyone! Sorry it has been quite a while since our last posting. CustomArt is still making art and jewelry! In fact, we are a wholesale distributor of CustomArt and Rinnie Roo products and have developed a customer base throughout Virginia. For our local customers, we have product at Montpelier, James Monroe's Highland, and Michie Tavern in Charlottesville. And just recently we have pieces available at Maddybugs Gifts located right here in Orange. If you are traveling thru Virignia on vacation, look for us at the Virginia State Parks. We're expanding our business monthly and will keep you posted!! thanks

THROWBACK THURSDAY: The top image is of Michie Tavern soon after it was relocated next to Monticello. The Tavern was purchased in 1927 by a local businesswoman, Mrs. Josephine Henderson. Under her guidance, the Tavern was dismantled piece by piece and carted by horse and wagon and by truck 17 miles (from the original location on the Buck Mountain Road in Earlysville). Within one year, Michie Tavern opened to the public in 1928. Mrs. Henderson was an early preservationist and due to her efforts, Michie Tavern is a Virginia Historic Landmark. Preservation architect, Mr. Milton Grigg and his wife, Vestal Grace, were the next owners. After a divorce, the Tavern was operated by Mrs. Grigg. She preferred an "overgrown" appearance to suggest Michie Tavern had been located on Route 53 for centuries.
