Seeds Fine Art Exhibits

Seeds Fine Art Exhibits Seeds Fine Art Exhibits transforms galleries into sacred spaces The exhibition, although strong, came across very one-sided and of a limited perspective.

In 2001, artists Cindi Rhodes and Denise Weyhrich took their children to a major museum for a cultural experience. Cindi and Denise saw a great opportunity to fill in the blanks. That motive became their mission. The mission went underground for four more years until a ripe opportunity came along for that first museum-worthy exhibition -- “Messages of Hope” celebrating the beauty and diversity of

different cultures and people -- where Cindi and Denise’s formidable years of experience in the art world and academic world combined to shine. Since then, twenty-seven exhibitions have been launched and traveled all over the United States. In the next few years, SEEDS is providing fantastic exhibitions for some very significant communities: in municipal art centers, in commerce, in higher education, in faith communities that often get estranged from impactful art. Three of our largest, most jaw-dropping exhibitions are being currently organized (ask us about these!). With your help, we can usher in a new unparalleled era of Seeds.

The most wonderful Chemers gallery after decades is having to move to a new location. As they finished their exhibit and artists’ showcase yesterday, one of 100 it was hard to say goodbye to their incredible space. Praying for Karen and her team to find a new home, that is just as warmly embraced by a new neighborhood. Such great work needs to be rewarded!

It is with admiration & prayers for his loved ones. Remembering George Herms
(1935–2026)

George Herms, Balcony, 1994, Wood and Found Object Assemblage, 31x 44 1/2 x 3 3/4 inches

Jack Rutberg Fine Arts is deeply saddened to learn of George Herms’ passing at the age of 90 on April 24.

George Herms was a leading figure of the L.A.Beat Generation assemblage movement. Its youngest and most enduring member, he employed disparate materials assembled together as acts of love. Indeed he signed his works with randomly placed ink- stamped letters: L, O, V, E.

George was prominently featured in significant early exhibitions of post-war Assemblage at the Museum of Modern Art (The Art of Assemblage, 1961), and the Pasadena Museum of Art (California Collage Show, 1962), cementing his importance in the movement’s history.

He was an integral part of the Whitney Museum’s major exhibition Beat Culture and the New America: 1950-1965 that coincided with his solo show at Jack Rutberg Fine Arts in 1995. More recently, George Herms’ works were included in our major 2025 exhibition, Sculptors: From Degas to Ruscha.

George Herms’ works will be included in our forthcoming exhibition celebrating those artists who are part of Pasadena’s artistic legacy.
