Oregon, Ohio is nestled on the east side of Toledo in eastern Lucas County. It is bordered by Toledo, Harbor View, Lake Erie, Jerusalem Twp, and Northwood. Founded first as a Township in 1838, they became a city in 1958. Oregon Township initially touched the Maumee River, at present day Miami and Fassett. A man named Isaac Streets acquired land and set up 'the town' with a handful of homes, a tavern, and a hotel before this 'town' ceased to exist in 1840.

Oregon has two hospitals and two large oil refineries. The refineries together make over 5 million gallons of fuel every day. Oregon was a part of the Great Black Swamp. One of the few areas of the swamp remaining in the region can be visited at Pearson Metropark.

The Maumee River opens up into Lake Erie here in the Maumee Bay. The "Port of Toledo" ... is also partially in Oregon. Oregon Fire was first-due to a 762-foot freighter in February 2019. In 2022, the cargo that moved through the Port supported nearly 8,000 jobs across Ohio. Total economic activity created by the Port was over $906 million in 2022.

The first store for the Marcos Pizza corporation was opened on Starr Ave. One of the area's only drive-in movie theatres is here, the Sundance Kid. Ironically, the Sundance's big screen was damaged by a tornado in November 2013 - Twisters opens tomorrow, Thursday July 18th. You can watch the tornado movie at the drive-in. Oregon is home to the German American Festival, drawing 30,000+ people every year to Oak Shade Grove.

In the beginning of May each year, the area sees an influx of tourists, aka the birdwatchers. Along Route 2 from Oregon east towards Sandusky, birders enjoy the migration of many different species of birds.

Oregon completely encircles the Village of Harbor View. Since 1947, Oregon Fire provides services to the village, which boasts a population of 89 and encompasses four streets.

Oregon Fire officially began service in 1938.

It is with deep regret and a heavy heart I announce the passing of Battalion Chief Kenneth W DeWitt (BC43) this morning. Kenny served not only his community in many capacities but most memorable as Chief of Station 43 and the Oregon Fire Rescue Department for over 50 years with honor and distinction. I will keep you informed as to his final arrangements as they are available. In the mean time, please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.

PRESS RELEASE

Oregon Mayor Michael Seferian announced today that a ceremonial groundbreaking construction kickoff will take place on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at 9:00 am at the site of the new City of Oregon Central Fire Station to be built at 1040 S. Wynn Road. The 20,000 square foot station will replace the current Station #41 located at 5002 Seaman Road. The building will have modern living quarters for the on-duty crews and will house 2 engines, 2 Medic units, Life Squad 8, a brush truck, a supervisor vehicle and provisions for the tower ladder. Primary staffed response to emergency calls will be from this station. Station #42 at 1102 S Wheeling and Station #43 at 4421 Bayshore will continue to operate as satellite stations staffed by paid-per-call part-time firefighters.

Mayor Seferian states, “We’re excited to move forward with this new station and our improved response plans. As fire response needs change, our City must adapt to meet those needs. This new station will allow us to continue to make the changes that will best meet the fire and safety needs of our community.”

Fire Chief Denny Hartman states, “We greatly appreciate the support from our community in making these changes. Our firefighters are looking forward to operating in this new environment and eagerly await completion.”
