Did you know that the process of moving an entire building is not a new one? In particular, homes built with balloon frame structures (where the structure is composed of lumber fastened with nails instead of joinery and the wall studs run the entire height of the outside walls) were much lighter and more mobile than stone or brick buildings from the early nineteenth century. We know that Henry Laun moved his general store to Union Avenue in Orland Park in 1879. Can you help us figure out the context of this photograph and what home is being moved here?

Join us TOMORROW for the grand reopening of the Humphrey House! We will be unveiling two new rooms focused on the lives of the domestic servants that lived in the house. Parking is available right across the street at Studio VOP (14409 Beacon Avenue).

The event will also feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, light refreshments and the opportunity to view the newly renovated house museum and updated exhibits. Don’t miss it!
