A former B-17 pilot during World War II, Lee’s courage was recognized by the French government, which honored him with the prestigious French Legion of Honor for his heroic service. Born west of Longmont, Colorado, Lee played on Loveland High School’s undefeated state championship football team in 1942, graduating in 1943 before joining the Army Air Forces. Based in Molesworth, England, he flew his first combat mission on February 13, 1945, regularly bringing home his entire crew after each battle and completing 22 missions by April 25, just 13 days before V-E Day. His steadfast faith and compassionate wisdom guided his actions, whether he was offering sage advice to a friend or nurturing his family with boundless love, making him a true pillar of integrity and a personal super-hero to his grandchildren.
Lee’s dependability and heart for people extended beyond the battlefield, as he dedicated his life to serving his country and community in various capacities, ensuring the safety and well-being of his family. His commitment to doing the right thing, no matter the cost, was rooted in a deep sense of duty and love, qualities that defined his roles as a faithful spouse, nurturing parent, and trusted friend.
