A FUND RAISER CIVIL WAR SHOW
“TO MY DEAREST”

Our Fund raiser show is based on the Civil War letters between Lt. Col. George Ward and his wife, Emily, of Worcester, Massachusetts. In 1861, George was asked to raise the 15th Massachusetts Regiment. Lynne McKenney Lydick created this production from the Ward’s 116 surviving letters from the collection of the Worcester Massachusetts Museum.
Lynne and her husband, Thomas, who previously lived and raised their children in Orrington, now travel from their home in Worcester performing this show.
Winding up this memorable evening, we will be having a pie raffle! Leave your plastic tucked away, because just like in 1861, Cash Is King!!
Please keep checking out our Face book page for more about our Old Home Week events. Thank you.

ORRINGTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY CIVIL WAR PROGRAM

Old Home Week
Friday, July 17, 2026 6 p.m.

The Orrington Historical Society has been given an incredible gift. Our stage will be the scene for a production based on the lives of Lieutenant
Colonel George H. Ward and his wife, Emily Ward.
Performers Lynne McKenney Lydick and Thomas R. Lydick have traveled extensively presenting the Ward’s true story. George and Emily wrote faithfully to each other throughout their separation and now we get to eve’s drop into the poignant and personal time of their marriage.
Lynne and Thomas made us the incredible offer of forgoing their fee if we would present their performance as a fund raiser for the Historical Society. Of course we said yes!
More details to follow about this evening, but we wanted to post our good news!
Please mark your calendars and step back into George and Emily’s lives as presented to us by the Lydicks.
We’ll remind you again, but just like in the 1860’s …..Cash is King! Want to know more? Stay tuned!

ORRINGTON’S OWN PAUL REVERE
This month’s meeting is all about the unsettled and frightening time of the War of 1812. Life along the Penobscot, where so many of our families were tied to life on the water was difficult. Being on edge with the men at sea, knowing how the British were burning our Capital and making their way North, meant everyone was on edge.
Even by 1814 the British were still advancing our way. With Azuba Freeman Ryder’s husband being a sea Captain, she was certainly on alert. Pat Claus has put this program together for us to hear how this mother of three managed to help keep our town safe.
Please pass the word about this program. You don’t need to be a Historical Society member to come to our meetings.
Our evening ends with light refreshments and time to socialize.
Please join us!

THE PAUL REVERE OF ORRINGTON

Azuba Freeman Ryder was our own Paul Revere and Pat Claus will be presenting this month’s program on Azuba and her life in Orrington.
Find out how Azuba was the right person, in the right place, at the right time. What did she do in 1814 that brought her such respect and admiration for the next 200 years?
Please join us and hear what happened and what is happening now, to carry Azuba’s name forward.
Light refreshments follow our meetings…..and remember, you don’t have to be a member to come to our meetings! Please join us!
( Note, the image below was created by Sue Pate who used a little AI to bring Azuba to life! We thank you, Sue!).

THE PAUL REVERE OF ORRINGTON

This month we will be putting on a program about Azuba Freeman Ryder.
Patricia Claus will be our speaker and giving us a look back into the life of this amazing woman. Orrington in 1814 was no stranger to the dangers and sacrifices of the War of 1812 and in 1814, it landed right in her neighborhood.
Over 200 years and Azuba is still a remembered and celebrated part of Orrington’s history.
Please join us and spread the word to neighbors and friends. You don’t have to be a member to come to our monthly meetings. Light refreshments end our evening programs.

THE PAUL REVERE OF ORRINGTON

Our June program will be on Azuba Freeman Ryder. Patricia Claus is our speaker and has been researching how during the Fall of 1814, Orrington had our very own heroine. What happened that the heavily pregnant Azuba and her three young children, fled thru the forest? Where did she go? Was her bravery recognized? How will we continue to honor Azuba?
Please spread the word to your friends and neighbors….maybe even bring your family! Light refreshments and time to socialize follow our meetings.
