Arts & Communications Center 1st Floor-N102
Annex Gallery
2nd floor-N204 There is no admission charge.

The Allen Priebe Art Gallery opened in 1971 in the newly-completed Arts and Communication Center on the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh campus. The gallery is named in memory of Allen Priebe, a member of the UW Oshkosh art faculty and teacher at the Rose Swart Campus School, until his death in 1965. The gallery is located on the first floor of the Arts and Communication building. Each school year

the gallery hosts numerous exhibits, giving the university community and the public a chance to meet visiting artists and view a variety of art exhibitions. We have recently expanded our regular schedule to include more exhibitions in The Annex Gallery. These exhibits are selected by a board of students elected at the end of each spring semester. The board meets regularly with a designated art faculty director. Refreshments are served during opening/artist receptions.

Our first exhibition of Spring 2026 in the Annex Gallery was “Sing Many Songs” with paintings by Jordan Acker Anderson. It was so amazing having her on campus to share her work and to select our Juror’s Awards for the Student Honors Exhibition.

We will continue to reflect on our Fall 2025 - Spring 2026 exhibitions this week: the last exhibitions we had in the Allen Priebe and Annex Galleries for the Fall Semester were student centered and included the Advanced Critique, the BFA Studio Art Senior Exhibition, and Natural Observations (a student curated exhibition from the UW Oshkosh Permanent Collection).

At UW Oshkosh’s Allen Priebe and Annex Galleries students have many opportunities to gain professional experiences in exhibiting, curating, researching artists, and in installing exhibitions.

In October and November we exhibited “Art Against the Odds: Wisconsin Prison Art” in the Allen Priebe Gallery. This exhibition featured artists who turned to creative production to mitigate the de-humanizing conditions of incarceration. Curated by Debra Brehmer owner of Portrait Society Gallery of Contemporary Art in Milwaukee, WI, and Paul Salsieder, the exhibition gives voice and visibility to individuals in the state’s prison system as well as illustrates the potential healing properties of an art practice.

The exhibition explored how art is a vehicle to develop self-esteem, self-awareness, regulate emotions, and explore multi-faceted aspects of identity.

Our first exhibition of the school year in the Annex Gallery was “A Field of Secrets” honoring the 50th year anniversary of HMoob refugee resettlement in Wisconsin. The exhibition was organized by Dr. Choua Xiong and Dr. Chong Moua and featured suspended photographs of families, governmental paperwork, and medical documents relating to the challenging journey HMoob families faced while being resettled in Wisconsin. Visitors were invited to walk through the images to get a suggestion of the confusion and complexity of the resettlement process.
