Our thanks to John and Linda Chapman for taking me to the Liberty Street Cemetery, Alamo Township to view the gravestone of Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient Elliott M. Norton.

He served as a First Lieutenant in the Union Army in Company H, 6th Michigan Cavalry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on April 6, 1865 at Deatonsville (Sailor's Creek), Virginia. His Citation: Rushed ahead of his column and captured the flag of the 44th Tennessee Infantry (C.S.A.). He was presented with his Medal on May 3, 1865.

Died: January 5, 1899, Carson City, MI, Unit
