Tioga County Historical Society The Tioga County Historical Society is a non-profit educational organization which collects, preserves, and interprets Tioga County history.

Tioga County Historical Society's museum in Owego, NY houses thousands of artifacts, documents, and photographs pertaining to Tioga County NY history. The museum has a gift shop and four galleries. Exhibits in half the galleries change 2-3 times/year, while our permanent exhibits are on display in the other non-rotating galleries. Be sure to stop by the museum in person. There's always something to see.

There are only 3 more days left for donated items to be dropped off for our White Elephant Yard Sale. We have had 100's of items dropped so far. All of the donations are going towards some very exciting, soon to be announced changes at the museum. The hours at the museum are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 until 4. The First Annual Looking Back Gala: Our Roaring Twenties will be held on Saturday,
May 16 from 5:00-9:00 PM at the Pumpelly Estate, 44 Front Street. This black-tie event
benefits the Tioga County Historical Society and encourages the attendees to wear
formal 1920s attire. The cost is $100/person or $150/couple, and each attendee will get
one free drink. The event is catered by the Cellar Restaurant, and there will be music,
wonderful food being provided by the Cellar Restaurant.
The evening starts with a cocktail hour from 5:00—6:00, with some important
announcements and appreciations from 6:00—6:30. Dinner will be held from 6:30 to
7:30 with a garden salad to start, followed by your choice of Chicken Piccata, Pork
Tenderloin with Balsamic Glaze, or Pappardelle Pomodoro. All entrees will be served
with potatoes and seasonal vegetables, along with rolls and butter. There will be 4-5
varieties of passed hors d’oeuvres during the cocktail hour, followed by a dessert
station.
Bob Powell will provide musical entertainment during the event, there will be time for
dancing, before the event winds down to close at 9:00 PM. There will also be a photo
booth to capture your elegance for posterity.
In addition, there will be a silent auction of donated high-end items, so bring your money
and checkbooks as Lucas Kaczynski will lead the auction.

The museum will be closed on Tuesday, March 16 due to the weather (we follow the school closings schedule). We will reopen on Wednesday as usual. Our director, Gerry Smith, will be on WEBO on Friday, March 20 at 9:00 with some important announcements -- be sure to listen in. Happy St. Patrick's Day!

The museum will be closed on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 11:00-1:00 to allow staff to honor Eleanor Hurd, valued volunteer on her 90th birthday. She still works 2 days a week and keeps us on the straight and narrow.

You might think we have been quiet lately. You would be wrong! Our exhibits will open on Friday, April 17 with a Grand Opening Celebration. Then on Saturday, May 16 from 5-9 PM at the Pumpelly Estate, we will be hosting a 1920s themed Gala -- fancy dress, fancy eats, and a great time for Tioga County. Wait, I'm not done yet. We will be announcing a Capital Campaign to raise $2.2 million to build additions to the rear sides of the building to bring all of our collections above the flood stage and protect the building and the Society for another 100 years! And there will be word in a few months of a very major donation. How about those apples!

Now that it's over -- or is it? Through Saturday, December 20 at 4:00 PM -- everything in the Gift Shop is HALF PRICE! We will be open from Tuesday through Saturday from 10-4.

The museum will close at that time and reopen on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. Don't worry, we will be like Santa's Elves putting everything away for a stupendous New Year of new exhibits, and some big announcements.

Tomorrow is it!! The last day of O' Tannenbaum for 2025. The museum will be open from 10-7. Then the doors will be locked, a bell will ring, and we will determine all of the winners. Rick Pedro playing from 1012, and the Owego Apalachin School Chorus performing from 1-3 -- plus Santa and Mrs. Claus. Hurry., hurry!
