At Owls Head Transportation Museum, the Science & Industry Center explores the history and production of both aviation and automotive industries.

Looking for a way to keep your kids active, creative, and learning this summer? ☀️

OHTM Summer Camps give kids ages 4-12 the chance to explore science, engineering, art, aviation, racing, robotics, fabrication, nature, and more - all while making memories and giving parents a little extra breathing room during summer break.

Whether you’re a local family planning your summer schedule or visiting Midcoast Maine and searching for something exciting for your kids to do, OHTM has a camp designed for curious minds of every age group.

👧 Ages 4-5
Half-day camps designed for younger learners full of imagination, creativity, movement, and playful discovery. Campers can race on the indoor track, hunt for treasure, explore bugs and nature, become secret agents, travel through aviation-themed activities, and create colorful art projects.

🧒 Ages 6-8
Full-day STEM adventures focused on exploration, teamwork, invention, and problem-solving. Campers will experiment with wild science reactions, build 3D creations, code robots, tackle engineering challenges, explore nature trails, and invent their own projects.

🧑 Ages 9-12
Advanced FabLab and engineering camps built for older campers who love to design, build, code, and create. Campers will work with laser cutters, 3D printers, robotics, CAD, fabrication tools, aviation design, and even participate in a junior auto auction experience inspired by OHTM’s New England Auto Auction™.

From messy art and bug hikes to battle bots and fabrication labs, every camp combines creativity, educational experiences, and summer fun in a one-of-a-kind museum setting.

Can your parachute survive the jump?

This week at Junior Inventors, participants will become skydiver engineers as they design and test parachutes inspired by real aviation technology. They’ll experiment with materials, air resistance, and gravity while creating parachutes capable of safely landing their “skydivers.”

This summer, Thursdays just got bigger at OHTM!

For the first time this season, the ENTIRE museum will stay open until 7:00 PM every Thursday, giving you extra time to explore historic aircraft, automobiles, engines, exhibits, and more after your day winds down.

Stop in for Junior Inventors from 4:30-6:30 PM at the Science & Industry Center, then keep the adventure going by exploring the rest of the museum all evening long. Whether you’re looking for family activities, a post-work outing, or a chance to experience more of OHTM at your own pace, Thursday nights are your new summer tradition.

Engineering, exploration, and adventure are all on the schedule this week.

Thursday, June 18
Junior Inventors: Parachute Engineering | grades K–8 & families
4:30–6:30 PM

Participants will become skydiver engineers as they design and test parachutes inspired by real aviation technology. Through experimentation with materials, air resistance, and gravity, they'll discover what it takes to create a successful landing.

This summer, Thursdays are even bigger at OHTM. The entire museum will remain open until 7 PM every Thursday, giving visitors extra time to explore the museum's collection of historic aircraft, automobiles, engines, exhibits, and the Science & Industry Center.

Meanwhile, starting THIS SATURDAY, the OHTM X-Cup team is officially on the road for The Great Race X-Cup. Jenny, Oliver, and Desmond are traveling from Springfield, Illinois, to Pasadena, California, along historic Route 66, gaining real-world experience in navigation, teamwork, leadership, and vintage vehicle operation while representing OHTM and Maine throughout the journey.

Junior Inventors: Rocket Science | grades K–8 & families
4:30–6:30 PM

Participants will test three different rocket launch methods using air power, propulsion, and kinetic energy while discovering how engineering choices affect performance. Through experimentation and problem-solving, young inventors will explore the science behind what makes things move.

This drop-in after-school STEM program is free with museum admission or membership, and the Science & Industry Center will remain open until 7 PM for Junior Inventors families.

Join fellow vintage car enthusiasts for a scenic drive through Maine’s countryside to the L.C. Bates Museum of Natural History and Culture. Lunch is provided, vintage attire is encouraged, and participants can enjoy a full day of driving, camaraderie, and automotive history.
