CHRISTIAN COUNTY BY-GONES
This undated (post 1909) photo shows the Ozark mill on the right with a railroad car along side it, and what is now the Finley Farms Marley House in the foreground. The house atop the bluff still stands, and Ozark’s early water supply came from Bluff Spring, directly below the house at the bottom of the bluff. Note that the road into Ozark at the time crossed the mill bridge, turned right to go under the railroad trestle, then turned right again to go south up the hill into Ozark.

You won't want to miss this one. An almost forgotten spot that once was a thriving town with 2 stores, 2 blacksmith shops, and a 3-story flour mill. Then a smaller grist mill and made into a tourist camp. Later an experimental power plant producing electricity with the old turbine (installed in 1906) that ran the mill! Lots of interesting stories including local residents Ma Barker and her Boys who in the 1930s terrorized the country as depression-era outlaws.

CHRISTIAN COUNTY BY-GONES
In 1963 Ozark two flower shops on the Ozark square could help you celebrate Mother’s Day. The Ozark Flower Shop opened in early 1959, joined by Hazel’s Flower Shop in November 1962 (still operating).

Yesterday we ended up a series of tours of the museum by 2nd graders in a local school district. There were 3 days spread over 3 weeks and well over 300 students came through the museum in total on those 3 days. We split them up into groups of 10 or 12 depending on how many were in that tour group and two museum guides gave them tours of the museum and talked about what they might find interesting and educational at each of the 25 exhibits. They loved watching the model train of the Chadwick Flyer and hearing about it. And each group got to practice using rotary dial telephones from the past. They were fascinated by the Bald Knobber exhibit and they were amazed at the real Springfield Wagon, which none of them had seen before.

If your school would like to schedule tours of the museum, feel free to email the curator, Paul Johns, at [email protected] and let us know. We love introducing youngsters to the fascinating history of our county.
