Friends of the Uffizi Gallery

Friends of the Uffizi Gallery To raise awareness of the Uffizzi and its cultural treasures by providing resources for acquisition, preservation, restoration and education.

Amici degli Uffizi, established in 1993 after the Uffizi bombing, has supported the Uffizi Gallery in Florence by facilitating acquisitions, supporting restorations and organizing special events. Friends of the Uffizi USA works with Amici to raise funds to support these activities through the efforts of its dedicated members and patrons. Over 30 restoration projects have been completed since 2011.

The Uffizi Gallery, originally showcasing the Medici family collection of ancient sculptures, is considered one of the world's first public museums. It receives over 1.6 million visitors per year and is the home to some of antiquity's most treasured Renaissance art. Working closely with the museum's curatorial staff, both groups play a vital role in preserving and restoring one of the worlds most important museums and the cultural heritage of Western civilization.

What do the FBI, CIA, and NATO have in common with The Uffizi? Amy Herman and The Art of Perception. In her highly participatory presentation, Ms. Herman will use the analysis of works of art as a vehicle to enhance observation, perception, and communication skills. In the pandemic’s shift to a virtual platform, effective communication is paramount. Participants will reconsider their critical inquiry skills and ability to communicate in a variety of scenarios, both personal and professional. Works of art will also be engaged as tools to understand assumptions that impede best practices and decision making. Prepare to have your eyes opened when you did not even know they were closed.

SHOES SPEAK ITALIAN......Step back in time with us!

The Uffizi Galleries have published an online visit you might find interesting: https://www.uffizi.it/en/online-exhibitions/worn-by-the-gods

The theme is quite peculiar and curious, showing the art of shoe making in the ancient world, which also inspired Hollywood film genre of "sword and sandal" and even modern designers such as Ferragamo.

Excitingly, some of the ancient statues included in the virtual exhibition have been restored by the Friends of the Uffizi over the years.

The Art of shoemaking in the ancient world, the epic films and contemporary fashion
