It's officially SUMMER BREAK! Save the date for Art at the Park! We’re hosting two themed drop in craft days this June at Palmetto Historical Park.

Our first event is June 16. We’ll be creating mosaic art projects using air dry clay and beans. There will be lots of fun projects to choose from including necklaces, pinch pot trinket dishes and more.

The second event is June 30, just in time for the 4th of July and America’s 250th birthday celebration. We’ll be making patriotic windsocks, bracelets, and more festive crafts. Don’t miss out on the fun! No reservations are required. Stop by on either day from 9am to 12pm to participate!

This photo from the Alice V. Myers Archive Center at Palmetto Historical Park shows children from the Manatee River Boat Club at Camp Lancaster. Camp Lancaster was named after Dr. Blake Lancaster, who provided the land for the camp. It was located on the north side of the Manatee River near Red Fish Point, south of Parrish.

The property was used by both the boat club and the pram fleet for boating, racing, and week long encampments. Also included is a Bradenton Herald article from August 15, 1954, featuring photos of the boat club during a campout. Let us know in the comments if you remember Camp Lancaster!

As Palmetto High School’s Class of 2026 celebrates their graduation ceremony tonight, we are sharing a look back at the Class of 1943. This includes a graduation photo and the “Last Will and Testament” from their yearbook. If you recognize any of the names, please let us know. We noticed a very special name on the list, Palmetto Historical Park’s beloved historian, Alice V. Myers.

May is National Preservation Month!

Last week, Carla from Palmetto Historical Park along with Tori from Florida Maritime Museum attended the Preserve Florida Conference hosted by Florida Trust for Historic Preservation, Inc. held in St. Pete.

Carla was able to participate in several cemetery preservation sessions to stay up to date on the latest best practices and preservation methods. We are always eager to continue learning so we can better preserve and protect our community’s history for future generations.
