OUTBOUND !
Farewell Palmyra !

The ferry PALMYRA carries town faithful and residents of South Jersey across the river in this original photo from an archive donated to the PHCS in 2018 by Al Davis , great grandson of Lewellyn Davis. Lewellyn , a PHS graduate became a builder of homes in New Jersey and Pennsylvania in the 1920s and lived at 920 Columbia Avenue in a house he built !
By 1929 , the bridge made Ferry boat travel across the river ......history!
I would love to have taken a ride on the ferry ! Call it a boyhood dream , but I am sorry I missed the chance. I hosted two riverboat tours celebrating the Riverfront history of Palmyra , Riverton and Cinnaminson in 2008 and 2009 which were the next best thing ! I hope you were there ! Thanks to Al Davis !

FATHER TIME !

HAPPY NEW YEAR !
This is a Presentation watch gifted to James T. Weart by the Borough Of Palmyra in 1928 for his years of service to the Borough that culminated with him serving as Palmyra’s first Mayor. The watch is in good hands as part of the Weart family archives. Thank you to Gary Weart for sharing the pic with us .Your donations to the Palmyra Historical Society have been inspiring and contagious ! Onwards to 2020!

HISTORY FOR SALE

What is perhaps the most historical and storied home in Palmyra , New Jersey is back on the market .SPREAD THE WORD ! The Toy - Morgan homestead was built in 1761 and was home to both the Toy and Morgan families. Long rumored to be an Underground Railroad stop , and visited by Benjamin Franklin while journeying to visit his son in Willingboro , it was also a Speakeasy in the 1920s during prohibition. This home doesn’t need a flipper or developer hell bent on sacrificing its history for a quick renovation. PLEASE SHARE and help us find a caretaker of this historical homestead at the foot of Cinnaminson Avenue .

For Sale - 1 Cinnaminson Ave, Palmyra, NJ. This Single Family House is 7-bed, 4-bath, 3,836-Sqft ($167/Sqft), listed at $640,000. MLS # NJBL362098.

PLEASE WAKE UP PALMYRA !
STOP DEVALUING YOUR OLD HOUSE !
If you had a beautiful piece of art that was custom designed, crafted by hand, made from native old-growth wood, and imbued with clues to its age and crafting traditions, would you throw the authentic piece in the dumpster if a simulated plastic version suddenly became available? Seems ridiculous, right? However, this is precisely what people all over the country are doing when they rip out their historic wood windows and replace them with new windows.
PLEASE SHARE !

Tell those replacement window salesmen to go away; fix your old window instead.
