Honoring the Chinese Year of the Fire Horse, this exhibit invites you into a powerful gathering of stories that trace the deep, enduring relationships between horses and human societies across cultures.

At its heart, Horse Nations centers Indigenous horse cultures of North America—stories of strength, kinship, resilience, and continuity that continue to move through time like hoofbeats across the land.

Join us in May as we open this special exhibit, on display throughout the month at the Park Rapids Armory Gallery.

Due to extreme cold temperatures in our area — with wind chills reaching as low as -40°F — the Giiwedinong Treaty Rights & Culture Museum will be closed on Saturday, January 24th to keep our staff and visitors safe.

In our cultures, times like this are traditionally meant for staying indoors, keeping warm, sharing stories, and spending time with loved ones. The land reminds us when it is time to rest, reflect, and care for one another.

We encourage everyone to stay safe, stay warm, and take this time to gather, listen, and reconnect. We look forward to welcoming you back once conditions improve 🤍

Out of respect for the ICE Out of Minnesota: Day of Truth & Freedom protest happening tomorrow — a statewide pause in work, school, and shopping to stand in solidarity with communities affected by recent immigration enforcement actions in Mni Sota — the Giiwedinong Museum will be closed on Friday, January 23rd.

Given the extreme cold weather forecast for that day as well, we want to ensure everyone stays safe and warm ❄️.

We stand in shared concern for community well-being and the call for justice and dignity for all. Thank you for your understanding and support. We look forward to welcoming you back on Saturday.
