New Artist Spotlight: Lotion in a Bar

We're excited to introduce Lotion in a Bar, a wonderful collection of moisturizing lotion bars made right here in Tucson, Arizona! Crafted with all-natural ingredients, these unique bars provide rich, long-lasting moisture without added water, petroleum, alcohol, preservatives, or fillers.

And don't let their appearance fool you! These aren't soaps! They're solid lotions designed to moisturize your skin, not wash it. Simply rub a bar between your hands and apply wherever your skin needs a little extra love!

Unlike traditional liquid lotions, these concentrated 3 oz. bars are designed to last for several months, making them both economical and convenient. They're especially wonderful for dry hands, elbows, and feet. And because they're solid, they're perfect for traveling without worrying about spills!

We have 12 wonderful varieties to explore! From the fresh, desert-inspired fragrances of Arizona Rain, Ancient Sedona, and Cactus Blossom to favorites like Lavender, Citrus, Prickly Pear, and Spearmint Eucalyptus, there's something for everyone! Rik Crane - Elgin, AZ

Meet Rik Crane, one of the newest artists featured at Patagonia Trading Post! Rik has been a farrier since 1970, specializing in performance horses, and recently made his way to Elgin after living in the San Diego area.

Over the years, Rik has reinvented himself while putting his metalworking skills to use in welding, leather creations, horseshoes, art, and more. That experience eventually led him to creating his own handmade knives.

Rik also operates Rik’s Scary Sharp Sharpening Services, where he sharpens just about anything with an edge, including knives, Damascus and old files, tools, garden equipment, and more.

Stop by Patagonia Trading Post and take a closer look at Rik’s handcrafted knives. Each one reflects decades of experience working with metal and the hands-on craftsmanship of a lifelong maker.

Artist Spotlight: Colleen Slater - Oro Valley, AZ

Things are getting a little spooky, colorful, and wonderfully whimsical in Colleen Slater’s corner of the Trading Post! With Día de los Mu***os approaching, it’s the perfect time to show off some of her fun and festive creations.

Colleen works in ceramics and glass, turning her imagination into everything from detailed skeletons and colorful mosaic art to decorative planters, magnets, spoon rests, chimes, and other one-of-a-kind treasures. Her Day of the Dead pieces are filled with skeletons, flowers, candles, crosses, bright colors, and plenty of Southwest personality.

Originally from the Finger Lakes region of New York, Colleen made her way west to Tucson in search of adventure and eventually built a life rooted in family, community, and creativity. After years as an educator, small business owner, and longtime presence at Tohono Chul’s gift shops, she now gets to spend her time doing what she loves most, creating art.

And there’s plenty more to discover! Look closely and you’ll find desert wildlife, birds, cactus, flowers, Patagonia-inspired designs, and all sorts of little details that make each piece uniquely Colleen.

The Patagonia Trading Post’s Local Non-Profit of the Week is:

Tierra Antigua Hope Foundation

Sometimes hope looks like a warm meal. Sometimes it’s a bed to sleep in, clean clothes, a backpack for school, or simply knowing your community hasn’t forgotten you.

This week, we’re shining a light on the Tierra Antigua Hope Foundation, a Southern Arizona organization dedicated to helping individuals and families experiencing hardship with food, clothing, household necessities, shelter improvements, and other everyday essentials.

Founded in 2014, the foundation believes in “Live Local, Give Local,” and they put those words into action. Their work has included providing beds, dressers, and bedding for children entering alternative placements, supplying essential care baskets for young adults transitioning out of foster care, serving meals to people in need, stocking local food pantries, supporting shelters, and providing backpacks for local youth.

It’s neighbors helping neighbors and a wonderful reminder of just how much good can happen when a community comes together.

Patagonia Fall Festival This Weekend!

One of Patagonia’s biggest weekends of the year is almost here! The Patagonia Fall Festival returns to beautiful Patagonia Town Park this Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 11, bringing together art, music, food, family activities, and plenty of small-town charm.

More than 120 artisans, food vendors, and exhibitors will fill the park with handmade pottery, jewelry, paintings, photography, fiber arts, woodworking, metalwork, glass, specialty foods, and so much more. And best of all, admission is FREE!

Enjoy live music throughout the weekend, featuring a variety of talented performers and plenty of great sounds to enjoy while you explore the festival.

Bringing the kids? There will be plenty of family-friendly fun and activities to keep younger festival-goers entertained, too.

Come hungry! Grab something delicious from the festival food vendors, then spend some time exploring everything else our little town has to offer.

And while you’re in town, be sure to stop by Patagonia Trading Post! We’ll be open 10 AM – 4 PM both Saturday and Sunday, with unique gifts, local art, handmade treasures, Patagonia finds, and plenty more to discover.

Our soap display just got a whole lot more colorful!

Artist Spotlight: Mora Artisanal

Handmade Soaps by Daniela Ortiz • Nogales, AZ

Daniela’s journey began with her teenage daughter, who struggled with eczema. While the medications she was prescribed were effective, they were too harsh for her sensitive skin. Daniela decided to try something gentler, something she used every day: soap! To their surprise, they began seeing improvements. As word spread, people started asking if they could try the soap too, and that’s when Daniela took a chance and turned soap making into a small business.

And just look at this new batch of designs! Roadrunners, cacti, succulents, cats, flowers, hummingbirds, butterflies, dreamcatchers and more. Each one is a tiny work of art with incredible detail and beautiful color.

Daniela’s soaps are handcrafted with goat’s milk, giving them their wonderfully soft pastel hues. Some varieties also include honey, which is always clearly noted on the label. With so many fun shapes and designs to choose from, picking a favorite might be the hardest part!

Stop by and see the newest Mora Artisanal creations in person. They’re beautiful, unique, and ready to make an everyday bar of soap a whole lot more fun!
