COUNTERMARCH!!! (20 Years Ago) 20 - 22 October 2006: 142nd Anniversary of the Battle of Cedar Creek

From our website, "This year the 67th NY sent its largest contingent ever to Cedar Creek. Fifteen men total made our muster roll and that wasn't including our two guests from the 119th NY who fell in with us for battle. We formed third company with the 61st NY who also sent a mighty large party this year. Saturday's scenario was the Battle of Third Wi******er while Sunday's was the Battle of Cedar Creek itself. Apart from some transport troubles, we had a fine weekend, great weather, and were kept well fed by our Cookie."

COUNTERMARCH!!! (One Year Ago) 18 - 19 October 2025: 161st Anniversary of the Battle of Cedar Creek

From our website, "We returned to the Shenandoah Valley for an off-year reenactment of the Battle of Cedar Creek and lucked out once more with great weather. This time round, we had two new recruits or 'Fresh Fish' experience battle for the first time or 'Seeing the Elephant'. We fell in with our battalion, the Army of the Rappahannock, for battles on Saturday and Sunday. This was our very first time at this reenactment where the organizers placed Federal Camp right next to the Confederates by the Sutlers and common area. That certainly did cut down on commuting town for the bluebellies wishing to visit the Sutlers. High winds struck during Sunday's battle and we managed to skedaddle out by 3pm right before a line of storms rolled in."

COUNTERMARCH!!! (5 Years Ago) 16 - 17 October 2021: 13th Annual Civil War Weekend at the Grange

From our website, "After two years, we hosted the 13th Annual the Civil War Weekend at the Grange. Fortunately, apart from some rain late Saturday we had fine October weather for wearing the woolens. And we were joined by all our friends in the local community including the 9th Virginia, the 30th Virginia, Co. H of the 14th Brooklyn (a/k/a: George Munkenbeck), and the 6th New York Independent Battery. On the historical side, both Sons and Daughters of Union Veterans held their meetings on the Saturday. In addition to the battles on both days we reprised our flag retirement ceremony on the Saturday evening followed by a free concert in the chapel given by Lynn & John Hewitt of the 9th VA and the 67th NY's own Max Rowland. On Sunday, we held contests on who could accouter up the fastest and who could load & fire a musket quickest. We garnered a good amount of donations from our Adopt-a-Book program where our old American history books find new homes. We tried out a new feature: a recruitment desk manned during the public hours. And Privates Armstrong & and Dubet (Dave Courtenay and Bill Hague) brought out their impressive rack of period weaponry on the Saturday. With all that's transpired since our last event, a sense of trepidation was well earned but the crowds came out as did our membership and a good time was had by all. Special thanks to Pvt. Smith (Rob Pellegrino) for supplying photography and Chris Lauterbach for his videos."

COUNTERMARCH!!! (20 Years Ago) 6 - 8 October 2006: 144th Anniversary of the Battle of Perryville

From our website, "Your Correspondent was invited by his pard, Mike Dawes, to join the ranks of his regiment for the 144th anniversary reenactment of the Battle of Perryville in central Kentucky. The catch was that his unit, the 9th Texas Infantry, are Rebels thereby necessitating this die-hard bluebelly to don the gray. Challenging as it was to cross the line, if only for one weekend, it was well worth being suspected of treason by my mates in the 67th NY back home. Well organized, well attended, and blessed with abundant sunshine and dry weather, the weekend could not have played out better for Rebel and Yank alike. Never having fought west of the Appalachians, it gave an Easterner a glimpse of the Western theater and the chance to learn what makes these Rebels tick..."

"Saturday's scenario was 'the Fight for Loomis Heights' while Sunday's was 'the Fight for Open K**b'. Both scenarios and indeed the whole reenactment were held on the original battlefield itself...not a common occurrence in this hobby. The 9th Texas formed the core of the Red River Battalion that also included the 6th Texas Infantry and the 32nd Mississippi Infantry... none of whom minded having a Yankee disguised in the ranks..."

"After Sunday's fight and returning to our temporary base in Louisville, we took some time to visit the humble origins of our 16th President. Ironically, Abraham Lincoln's Birthplace and his boyhood home at K**b Creek are both very close to Perryville itself. Paying homage to the Commander of the Union Armies certainly served as penance for this wayward Yankee."

NEW VIDEO: 2026 August 22 - 23: Living History at Gettysburg National Park

After 14 years, the 67th NY returned to Gettysburg National Park's living history program. Our host and director of the program, NPS Ranger Matt Atkinson, placed us at the Spangler's Spring demo area as our original regiment fought on Culp's Hill just up the road. We were joined by four members of the 104th Pennsylvania and while we did have a brief yet powerful storm on Saturday night, we couldn't have asked for better weather for late August with temps never getting above 80F. Hopefully, Ranger Atkinson will have us back next year.
